Can I Put My TV On Top of My DTV Box?

    I bought this TV:

I'm getting this HD receiver from DTV:

The stand I have (and would really like to continue to use) has no shelves...the old DTV box easily sits on top of the old TV, so no shelf is needed...

That won't work with the new one (balancing it on top)...

Since the base of the new TV is almost exactly the same size as the new receiver, I'd like to just put the TV on top of that...

The new TV's base has a hollowed out waffle pattern and holes where the stems attatch the TV, so will that be enough ventilation?

How about the weight of the TV?

It's around 35 pounds...will the new receiver be able to support that weight?

Continued thanks, I've been asking a lot of TV / PS3 questions lately, due the length of time since the last tech upgrade...a LOT has changed...

We have a Samsung 32" in our bedroom... for the sake of space we placed our tv (with pedestal) on top of the DVR... it's been working fine for 3 months... doesn't seem to get any hotter than the DVR in my living room.

There's a temperature setting on the DTV Box?

What should it be set to?

        Thanks!

          Good to know...

I usually only have the TV on for a few hours a day, except for football season Sundays, when it can be on pretty much all day and night...

          Thanks!

Yeah, it will be fine. One of the guys at my office has done this for a while and had no problems.

Well, that's a relief...I really didn't want to have to get a new stand and REALLY didn't want to have to get rid of the one I have now...

              Thanks!

Yeah, you should be fine...just keep an eye on the heat, my cable HD-DVR gets kinda hot, so not sure I'd really want to put my TV on it, but as long as yours isn't too hot you should be fine.

My DTV HD box won't have a DVR, so maybe there's less heat generated...

I'm trying to find out if that receiver has vents/ airholes on top, because if it doesn't it may indicate that it's really even less of an issue...

Yeah, that's my issue...mine has a lot of vents on top, it's the primary heat escape. I bet you'll be fine, especially without a big hard drive in there generating heat...

You can use a trick to get more air flow, buy some of those old think erasers and put under the corners for the TV to sit on.

The temp is on the System Menu -> Info & Test -> More System Info

They all run at different temps, mine is at 102F, but take a look at it after turning it on, then like 1 hour after. Then compare those to the temps with the TV on it. I think under 130F is fine.

                        Great (eraser) idea!

And thanks for also extending the knowledge on the temp settings...
