    Top Concert Experiences

    Last night I saw the Kings of Leon at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Great venue for a concert and they were great. They did a two hour set and played just about twenty songs. The encore was great, they played their hits (old and new), it was really just a great time. And it made me think of the best shows I've seen and I wanted to know what musicians or bands that you would recommend seeing live.

    Because there are some that really are just not good to see live. The Police, for instance, are horrible live. Just wanted to dig into OS nostalgia files and talk about music.

    My top 5:
    1. Bruce Springsteen
    2. Kings of Leon
    3. Billy Joel
    4. The Killers
    5. John Mayer

    Just thought it could make for a good discussion....

      1. Godsmack
      2. Breaking Benjamin (all 3 times, but the small club was the best)
      3. Hurt/Sick Puppies (in a small room with about 200 people)
      5. Tupelo Honey (Small Canadian band that I've actually become friends with)

        I'm a huge Kings of Leon fan!!! I've been following them since about 2003 but, I missed them when they were at Jazz Fest. I would love to see them though, it's great to see that they're finally having some success in the U.S.

        I also love The Killers. They're in my top 5 bands along with Kings of Leon, DMB, Jet and Phish.

        Here's my top 5.

        1. Limp Bizcuit (it wasn't for the music though, the atmosphere and ladies were great)
        2. Dave Matthews
        3. God Smack
        4. Seether
        5. Shine Down

        Yeah, I admit most of the bands aren't that great. That's because I used to go to a lot of festivals in Mobile, Birmingham, AL or Pensacola, FL.

            1. Sunset Strip Music Festival (I'm grouping this as one, but LMFAO and Shwayze were my favorites)
            2. The Killers
            3. The Shys

            I've only been to 3 so far, they were all amazing though. I'm seeing Mickey Avalon on Saturday..that should be pretty wild. I want to see Rise Against next time they're in CA, it'll probably be next year though.

                Top 5 shows I've been to:
                1) NIN at the Planet Hollywood Theater in Vegas, the night Trent announced the end was coming.
                2) Weezer at Cox Arena in SD last year when Rivers brought 20 or 30 fans on stage to play along with them.
                3) Deftones at some club on the Santa Monica Pier at the White Pony release party. I got to meet Steph, and Wayne Static.
                4) 311 at the HoB in Vegas when the band stopped in the middle of a song because they could tell the fans weren't into that song, so they started taking requests.
                5) Rancid at the HoB in Vegas when some moron spilled a beer on the sound board and the band had to finish their set on acoustic guitars.

                Top 5 bands I've seen:
                1) 311 - 11 times
                2) The Deftones - 4 times
                3) Weezer - 3 times
                4) NIN - 3 times
                5) Social Distortion - 8 times

                Top 5 disappointments:
                1) Incubus at the Warehouse in Atlanta - they had just started to soften up their sound, but they played in between Taproot and the Deftones, and completely took the energy out of the crowd.
                2) 30 Seconds to Mars - Every song sounded the same, so I left after 6 or 7 songs.
                3) Unwritten Law - Get wasted AFTER your show so you're not stumbling around on stage, slurring (and forgetting) lyrics.
                4) Tool - I almost fell asleep because of how bored I was.
                5) Thrice - 45 minutes of random noises.
                Through music, you can live forever...

                  Re: Top Concert Experiences

                  1. System of a down- the frist time I saw them at Continental Airlines arena was amazing, the second time when I finally got to be in the general admission area was 10x better.

                  2. Blink 182- not because they were particularly amazing, but I had been waiting like 10 years to see them because I never got to see them before they broke up, they could have came out and read War and Peace for a few hours and I would have loved it.

                  3. Kings of Leon- just saw them the other week and was blown away with how good they sound live and how awesome a show it turned out to be.

                  I missed a chance to see the killers on their current tour, but from the looks of things they put on a good show and their one of my favorite bands so I'll have to catch them again sometime.

                          Awesome.

                          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                          Saw Coldplay 3 times on their Viva La Vida tour, basically everytime they were in the DC area. The 2008 Halloween show w/ my brother was awesome, and the show this summer at the Nissan Pavillon that my wife and I attended was the best show I've ever been to.
                          Notable Others:
                          FM 99's "Big Day Off" - For this show lawn seats were $9.99, but me and a buddy got pit tickets to see: Mudvayne, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, and Slipknot.
                          I went for Linkin Park and Papa Roach. Linkin Park's set kinda sucked, but Papa Roach followed and it was awesome. The lead singer was chuckin the mic up in the air trying to catch it in between lines, and when he didn't he'd hit himself in the head w/ it. What happened next was cool...it was like he was looking right at me, reading his lips he said "You gonna catch me", and next thing you know he's jumped out into the crowd and we're all holding him up.
                          Then Slipknot came on, 666 signs flanked the stage in flames, and all hell broke loose. I felt like going to church afterwards...
                          Seen 311 twice: First time was at the Boathouse in Norfolk. They opened w/ Omaha Stylee and it was on. Midway through "Who's Got the Herb" came on, and my boy and I lit up a huge fattie.
                          Seen DMB 3x: Each is an awesome show.
                          Seen The Roots twice, once w/ John Legend, both shows were awesome. Seen Talib Kweli too, he's awesome live.
                          Collective Soul was meh, and that was at the height of their popularity.
                            Haven't been too many so..
                            1. Lupe Fiasco
                            2. Kenny Chesney
                            3. Dave Matthews Band
                            I've also seen Rascall Flatts (bad), Tim and Faith (decent), Keith Urban (decent).
                            Never really was a huge "concert go-er".
