Re: Pawn Stars
Not really....It is a show full of people who don't even research what they have before they come to the pawn shop. Then for the 1% who even have anything of value, they sell it for half or less then half then what it is worth.
I guess next year Discovery or History channel will come out with Junk Yard Stars, the life of a junk man.
Because they already have:
2 logging shows, 2 commercial fishing shows, Ice Road Truckers, Dirty Jobs, Tougher in Alaska, etc. -
Re: Pawn Stars
I agree that the people bringing the items in arent the smartest ones around but I do enjoy seeing the items themselves. Its an alright show but its not one I worry about if I end up missing an episode.Comment

Re: Pawn Stars
I am familiar with how pawn shops work. I just think its cool because of the family dynamic they have going on. Its also cool to see some of the stuff that comes in. They also tell people that they could get a lot more if they sold their item in an auction or to a collector. Anyway, sorry you don't like the show. Not really....It is a show full of people who don't even research what they have before they come to the pawn shop. Re: Pawn Stars
It is an ok show......I really just tune in just to see Chumlee or however his name is spelled do something stupid. I swear at any other job, he would have been fired a long time ago.
I am amazed how well perserved some of the old stuff be that people find in their parents or grandparents basement. Makes me think about saving some of my stuff and passing it down to my kids.
Because I can imagine 20 or 30 years from now my grand kids saying this is an Xbox 360 and it would be worth maybe $1,000 then. Or to have a very rare video game worth $10,000 or more.Comment

Re: Pawn Stars
A friend of mine works for the pawn shop on the show, but he works the night shift. He was telling me that we don't even see some of the more interesting things that some idiots bring around (prosthetic legs). He also sees a lot of sad things happen at the store too (people pawning their kids Christmas presents to support their gambling habits, and such). The best item he ever received was a Patriots SB ring.
Supposedly, he'll be in the 2nd season, but we'll see if it makes it that far. He said they've already filmed some of it, but the ratings aren't that great, so they may not be shown.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

Re: Pawn Stars
Not always, sometimes the people come in and know exactly what they have and how much it is worth. They just really need money and are willing to sell it cheap. I for one enjoy the show, I love seeing what people bring in.Not really....It is a show full of people who don't even research what they have before they come to the pawn shop. Re: Pawn Stars
I am now addicted to this show. I try to watch it every time it's on. It's funny seeing people think they got something authentic but it's actually fake.psn:ndluverComment

Re: Pawn Stars
Why do you say that? He doesnt strike me as anywhere near being a "douche" as you put it. There are times where he offers so little that its almost insulting but he's in a business to make money and has to make appropriate buying decisions based on what he can make. I like the show and would love to see this pawn shop in person, seems like they might have a ton of interesting items there for sale based on what we see on the show.Comment

Re: Pawn Stars
Just his personality, his corny jokes, his laugh (that he does after almost everything he says). And the fact that the whole cast is portrayed all "bad-***" style in the commercials when in actuality, they are anything but.
At least he's honest though... I've seen a lot of episodes where he could easily take some of the people that don't even know what they have, but he gives them the actual value of the item (regardless of what his offer for it is)Comment

Re: Pawn Stars
Well the whole "bad-***" style is because thats what the station uses to market it, its not like they themselves are walking around acting that way on the show.Just his personality, his corny jokes, his laugh (that he does after almost everything he says). Re: Pawn Stars
Agreed. He's a slime ball through and through. The laugh and overall demeanor of that guy is funny to me. I think it's funny because some people actually buy into it. I'm a psychology guy, so I tend to overanalyze people's traits.Comment

Re: Pawn Stars
I just started watching this show a couple days ago after coming across this thread, and I must say that I'm addicted to it. It's more of a Pawn Shop version of Orange County Choppers. I would assume that's one of the reasons they're advertised in that "bad-***" style. I see many similarities between the OCC and Pawn Stars cast.Just his personality, his corny jokes, his laugh (that he does after almost everything he says). And the fact that the whole cast is portrayed all "bad-***" style in the commercials when in actuality, they are anything but.

That sucks that you hate the bald guy's(Rick)personality and jokes. I find myself laughing every time he cracks a joke.Comment
