    Can't delete a file!

Last night I used my camera to shoot a video. Then I connected it to my laptop and wanted to copy the video to the desktop. While copying the file, it gave me some error and stopped copying it. So now I'm stuck with this file on my desktop and it wouldn't let me delete it. I can't even "right click->properties" on it. When I try to delete it, it says that 1 file is being sent to the recycle bean but it keeps going on and on and on...and then my Windows Explorer is stuck and I have to force quit this action... I found a File Shredder program and tried to shred the file, but it didn't work either.
This file just sits there and there's nothing I can do about it. Any tips?

    Thanks!

Thanks, I tried but it didn't help. Even tried to restore the system to 2 days ago - but it didn't work either. I guess I'll have to live with this file on my desktop for good.

        Re: Can't delete a file!

OK, after reading some posts on different forums, I downloaded a program called "Unlocker" and it enebaled me to unlock the file and put it on the Recycle Bin. But then, I couldn't empty the Recycle Bin, so I went to the Dos Prompt (or whatever it's called) and typed something I found on one of the forums. It didn't work right away, but after a few tries I looked at the Recycle Bin and it was empty! YAY! I did it!

          deltree

DOS command that should work. You might have to download the utility though and place it in the System32 directory.

There was a little app called Eraser which might do it in the future.

Oddly enough, I still use a ton of DOS commands today. Then again, being in the networking field, some of these commands are incredibly valuable: netstat, nslookup, ipconfig, arp, ping etc... Still write batch scripts to automate things as well.
