Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street remake/reboot/etc.

I think a large part of the numbers this movie received is due to the fact that you have a lot of teenagers going to see it. Movie theaters are always packed with teens during the weekend and lets face it, they do not always go to see the very "best" movies. Why do you think movies like Saw are up to 18 or 19 releases ()? Kids bring their dates to scary movies hoping to get some...this has been going on for years. $3 million opening weekend just means that there were a whole lot of suckers who got baited into thinking this movie would be worth a damn. Now if they make that much money next weekend, please disregard my post.

I'm about to go see it. Usually I'm pretty hard on horror movies, but I'll see. Texas Chainsaw Massacre re-make got bashed and I liked that. Plus Katie Cassidy is in this.

LOL, if you're hard on these movies I can't wait to see what you have to say then...cuz i'm pretty easy on movies in general really. I think this is the first time i've trashed a movie in years and I see a LOT of them..

I gotta agree with ODogg, the movie was pretty damn bad. I went opening weekend and expected to have trouble finding seats as I arrived a little late, but the theater was damn near empty.

Highlight of the film for me (and perhaps everyone else there) was a scene towards the end...tension was building up, you could tell Freddy was going to jump out any second...and some dude randomly yells out "BEEP". Everyone started laughing and obviously the scene was ruined. But still, worth it for the laughs.

Yeah man, there was a lot of laughing at the theater I was at. Like it was a da**ed comedy or something. I kept expecting Sinbad and Rob Thomas to show up in their bath robes and say some smart aleck comment to Freddy while we all keeled over in hilarity.

You can add the nightmare on elm street remake as being a horrible remake, they totally frelled this movie up, characters were boring especially the new nancy and you didn't care about them in the original you did, this new guy who plays freddy frelling sucks no way can he even compare to englund's performance as freddy. The child molesting stuff was felt creepy why did they change him anyway from being child killer to a molester. And really the look of the in dream sequences in the original look better then the one in this remake. I don't know why that keep spitting out remakes when they are awful. It would great if he was a normal guy faslely accused of the crime of child molestation and turned into a monster but they didn't and should have the story would have been better but the molestation stuff they did have was just disgusting and creepy.

I saw this today and while Rotten Tomatoes has it currently at 15%, it wasn't that bad. I didn't like what they did to Freddy's background and the Nancy character was pretty lame and dry. Freddy's makeup was weird also. Not like the first Freddy at all but it's not Robert Englund either. With that being said the movie has a lot of jumpy scenes in it and some decent death scenes. Like most remakes, the orig is much better. I'd only recommend seeing it in the theater if you really like horror flicks. If not, it would pass as a rental easily.

2 out 5 stars if I had to rate it. It's not going to win any awards but is not horrible either.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street remake/reboot/etc.

I'd give it 1 out of 5 stars. It wouldn't be so bad if it was a new horror series but you can't help but compare it to the original. And when you do that I think it has to go from a 2 star movie to 1 star because the original just destroys this.

Honestly this movie is a perfect example of a soulless corporate movie that proves Hollywood still does not understand what is scary to a lot of folks. No wonder independent shows like Paranormal Activity are what people are enjoying more and the profit margin is so much higher.

Also, somewhere Wes Craven and Robert Englund are laughing....

Robert Englund probably has one of the most psychopathic faces ever. Just look at it...even as he gets older he still have it!

By the way, I remember in 1990, when Nightmare on Elm Street 4 was released where I lived, I went to some theatre and asked one of the workers there if I can get the movie poster when they don't need it anymore. After some time I went there and got the poster. It was hung in my room for years. That was so cool!

Jessica Biel's backside made that movie watchable.

Looks like it made enough for a sequel. I was a little interested in seeing this movie but after hearing the reviews, I think I'll pass on this and the future sequel.

This movie was terrible, even the ending was bad! Acting was bad, special effects were meh!

Just didn't feel like Nightmare on Elm Street....Felt like rip-off based on name street.

Didn't like 1 scene in this whole film. Not one!

3/5 Stars from me. I thought it was okay. Might have been better if they didn't rip so many scenes from the original. I'd have liked a completely fresh take. Even though that comes with some risk its better than taking a new Freddy and basically putting him in the original replacing Englund. That's where the film hurt itself. Nonetheless, I liked it though.

The original movie had one of the best openings, in my opinion...

                                <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zQrZMoWaAZQ&hl=en_GB&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zQrZMoWaAZQ&hl=en_GB&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And what made the first moive so good, was that they didn't show Freddy that much. If I remember correctly, it took a lot of time until you actually saw what he looked like. The more you see Freddy, the less powerful his charachter is, in my opinion.
