I have 2 identical laptops with identical RAM, but one is much slower than the other

The only difference between them is that one has 111 GB of disk space, and the other has only 33.

Believe it or not, the one with 33 gigs is the one that runs fastest.

They both run Windows XP, but share the same network connection that I have in my house, but the 111 GB laptop runs like molasses and I can't figure out why.

I thought maybe it was because I had them both on at once and thus they were "sharing" the network connection, but the other one is still running as fast as always.

For what it's worth, I think the problem is the difference in the speed and signal strength.

    One says

    Speed: 54.0 Mbps
    Signal Strength: Excellent

    The other says

    Speed: 24.0 Mbps
    Signal Strength: Very Good

How do I raise the Speed of the second one to match the first?

Also, how do I change the "theme" of my start menu and taskbar? i.e., color, design, etc...

    Thanks

It's your router and network card. Far as the theme, you just right click on the page and go into the properties.

I don't think the router itself is the problem... but as far as the network card, what do I do about it?

Wireless on laptops is usually replaceable/upgradeable, they are typically a mini PCI or mini PCIe card. Getting to it may be an issue, some are easier to get to than others.

anything in between the second laptop and the router? also, anything that can interfere with the routers wireless signal?

He said they were identical, if they were a mac and a PC or had different specs they wouldn't exactly be identical.

That's really a loaded question. Are the drivers the same on all the hardware?
