    Netflix Blu ray

Who can answer this question: Why in the heck does Netflix charge $4 per month for Blu ray access? It was originally free, then charged a buck, now all the way to $4. Blockbuster offers free Blu Ray access but their transfer station is 6 hours from where I live compared to 2 for Netflix. $4 dollars isn't that big of deal but it's the principle.

Anybody find a way not to get charged?

    Re: Netflix Blu ray

Short answer is no. It's interesting where both are trying to make extra money. Netflix with blu rays and Blockbuster with in store exchanges. If all you want is DVDs they are the same price.

IMO, if you have a HDTV you owe it to yourself to rent blu rays.

If you don't care about instant access movies + tv shows, then it's a no brainer to go with Blockbuster.

I'm considering 2 options: Pay $11/month at Netflix for 1 blu at a time + instant access

or Pay $14/month at Blockbuster for 2 blu and no instant access

    Decisions, Decisions.....

      Re: Netflix Blu ray

Blu-Ray is why I've got Blockbuster. However, their slow service is starting to bug me... they haven't shipped me a movie in a week even though I've got 91 in my queue. I've also had two other issues with returning movies and having them take forever to clear my queue... and I have only been a member since August. At first, I figured the slowness was because I was on a free trial, but it's starting to become annoying.

Still sticking with it for now because of the Blu-Ray, but in-store exchanges are going to be less convinient soon because my local store is closing. They are supposed to be adding video games by the end of the year, and the slowness doesn't bother me too much because I really haven't had a situation yet where I really wanted to watch a movie and didn't have one on hand (I've got the three-out plan). But if this keeps up, I might have to re-think things (plus I'm a bit skeptical that they'll be able to get game shipping right if this is how their movie shipping is).

LOL, the same dilemna. I have watched maybe two instant access movies, but it is nice to have the option. Since our family watches movies mostly on the weekend, I am thinking of going back to two movies out with Blu Ray from Netflix...but who knows what is the best.

I use Netlix because I like to stream TV shows. Just finished season 2 of Dexter.

I've gone btwn both services the past few years. First had Blockbuster cuz there was a store just down the road, but they stopped carrying HD DVD so I switched to Netflix. With the BD extra charge and the fact that there are really no new releases that interest me, I cancelled Netflix.

I have to say though Netflix had excellent turn around times and I would get new releases in the mail on the day they released in stores. The advantage with Blockbuster was the in-store exchanges. However, I'm actually fine not having either one right now.

Netflix has great turnaround times...I hate the blu-ray fee, but it's obvious that blu-rays are way more expensive than regular DVD'S, so I understand where they're coming from.

I haven't tried BB's service, but I'm have been very impressed with the turn around on Netflix movies. Only once have I had to wait more than a day for my next movie.

Plus, I've gotten addicted to the instant access provided through my 360.

Hmmm... Instant Watch is coming to the PS3.

Might start thinking about Netflix a little more... still interested to see what happens with Blockbuster offering video games, though.

Just finished the whole first season of 30 Rock in HD via instant watch. I'll never let Netflix go.

IRT the question at hand, like someone said, Bluray is more expensive, so I understand why they charge a little more for it. I still think it's a pretty dang good deal all things considered.

Netflix for me. I can ship them a blu-ray today and have another one Wednesday. Can't beat their service or availability.

bumping an old thread. The reason why they increased the price for Bluray's is because they are having tons of them getting cracked. I just had 5 discs in a row with a crack. I am not talking about a little scratch, but a crack all the way through. Apparently it is a huge problem with Netflix. They refuse to use a better protected sleeve for Blurays which would eliminate the problem. So they just increased the price to cover all the damaged discs they have.

I just canceled because of this. Out of the 20 Blurays I rented over half of them arrived cracked.
