It too so long to "retrieve" because it retrieved the entire season of the TV show I selected. Going from one episode to another is seamless and instant.

Yea this worked well. Watched the last three episodes of 30 Rock: Season One and only had one interruption in the stream (it lasted maybe 4 seconds).

Wait, so the new releases arent avialable for streaming when they are available for rent? If so, why would that be exactly? I was thinking of doing this but if the new releases arent available day and date like the rent by mail portion of the website is then I dont see this making any difference for me personally.Comment

Not all movies available for shipping are available for Instant Streaming. I'm sure it is a legal/agreement issue. However, there are plenty of titles that ARE available to justify the fact this is a free side perk to having the Netflix service. Plus there are tons of TV shows available to stream, which is what I mostly use it for. It's also nice to have while you're waiting for those next movies to arrive.Comment

Yea, the streaming is an added bonus.
If Netflix allowed all movies to be streamed then people would technically work their way around a monthly fee and their plan (one, two, three discs at a time).
And like Dalewood said, there are tons of television episodes available via stream.
