Nah man, that would be even worse. I shudder just thinking about it.

Cuckoo's Nest will never be remade because it's set in the 60's anyways so modernizing serves no purpose and it looks modern to this day anyways since most of it takes place in a hospital.

Even studios are smart enough to know to not allow certain all time classics (Godfather, Citizen Kane) have thier legacy desecreted like that. Even though Jaws would seem like a good candidate with all the CGI crap today. But it's above remakes and is off limits although 3 crappy sequals didn't help but Speilberg would never allow a straight up remake of the original since he's got some legal say in the matter I beleive. He's said that movie is the one dearest to his heart because it made his career but at the same time almost killed his career because of numerous production problems. He was also never more bold as a fillmmaker as with that movie because the problems forced him to be. The shark doesn't really show up until the 3rd act (unheard of back then) because he had no choice and he pulled it off masterfully and it added to the suspense and made it a better movie.

I just thought of another movie that should be remade. It's not THAT widely known but it was a very good movie in the '60s that was pretty sharp for its day but some of the issues in it couldn't be explored as well as it could today. The original is based on the book of the same name:

        Advise & Consent (1962)

The above is the IMDB listing on the movie. Here's the summary and then i'll give you the wiki page on the book.

Robert Leffingwell is the president's candidate for Secretary of State. Prior to his approval, he must first go through a Senate investigation to determine if he's qualified. Leading the Senate committee is idealistic Senator Brig Anderson, who soon finds himself unprepared for the political dirt that's revealed, including Leffingwell's past affiliations with a Communist organization. When Leffingwell testifies about his political leanings, he proves his innocence. Later, however, Anderson learns that he lied under oath and even asks the president to withdraw Leffingwell for consideration, especially after the young senator begins receiving blackmail threats about a skeleton in his own closet.
        Oh and that skeleton?

        Spoiler

Some aspects of the confirmation hearing would have to be rejigged (hardline hawk or a peaceful dove) or set it in the '60s.

Here's the wiki article about the book. This would make for a great movie and there's already a guy in Hollywood who would be perfect to script/direct it in Rod Lurie.

Especially when you turn the sound down and play "Dark Side of the Moon" with it.
