No, it just closed like a regular window in Firefox.

This all started when I was on here and then a dialog box came up (can't remember what it said now) and the window I had OS in closed automatically and a new window opened up with that page that looked like the my computer page.

BTW, Firefox is what I'm using as my browser if it matters at all.

And it closed the current window right, I think it just reshapes it, but the first time it felt like it closed the window. For example, you're on espn.com, then espn.com disappears, and you see the 'my computer' page which is in a different window size then the espn.com was. I use firefox also, and if that was it, then it was just the ad even though I always get the dialog box asking me to confirm closing it. But reading your third post where you did install the setup.exe file, I would run as many virus scans as you can in the next day or two just to be safe.

No I didn't install it. I downloaded it but then quickly thought twice about it just because the name of the file was too sketchy, so I deleted it completely off my computer.

I never opened it up after it was downloaded and I think that's what would have done the real damage if I opened up that file.

I think you should be safe then especially because you already ran a virus scan.

Re: Great, I just got a virus. Help?

OK, more news to add to this....

All through the afternoon today my computer has been making this weird beeping sound that it has never made in the past. The sound is coming from the tower (I'm pretty sure). It wasn't frequent though, it was more like 3 or 4 beeps over the course of 4 hours. So I decided to rescan again and sure enough there were 3 detections and all 3 of them are trojans.

This Avira program I've been using put the trojans into a quarantine so I'm wondering if there is anyone here that knows what to do now? I know there is a few guys on here that have this program because I found it by searching 'virus' in the search engine here and found a thread where guys said they use it.

There's options to Rescan, Restore and Delete (there are others but its to add files and things like that). Obviously Restore isn't the thing to do and this will probably sound dumb but I'm wondering if picking Delete is going to completely remove it?

EDIT: OK, new question. A friend came over to help and I deleted the 3 files. After that I rescanned and there is 1 more file that came up. It is in the system somewhere (can't remember the exact name, it was system something..) and the only way I can access it is by going into safe mode. So I tried to go into safe mode but now the new problem is that when I go to the screen to access safe mode, I can't use the arrow keys to select safe mode. The screen is basically frozen. So now I need help on that......

Seems like something got screwed up with your system files. Personally I use avast as my virus protection. They have a free version you can download, only thing is it only last 3 months then you have to delete it then reinstall for another 3 months. Works great for me so I dont care about going through the steps of reinstalling. Also sounds like it wasnt a virus probably just spyware, adware or smitfraud. I usually get rid of that stuff with smithfraud fix and spybot. Send me a pm if you want the link for smithfraudfix it can usually fix a lot of problems and its like a 10 scan. I usually give a lot of my friends the link, just might work for you and you can do a scan in ur regular startup mode.

I've already scanned it, it's just I can't remove it unless I'm in safe mode and every time I go to the screen to access safe mode, it won't let me select it. Does smithfraudfix let me remove it in the regular startup?
