Quick and efficient way to convert AAC/M4A to MP3?

Long story short, the PS3 doesn't recognize AAC/M4A files where it can sort all of my songs by artist, album, etc. It only has the song names. I discovered that if I convert them it MP3, it does seem to do it. So now I have to convert 3,000 songs to this file for it to be recognized like this.

I know that iTunes has a converter, but it just doesn't cut it. Same with another program I tried called "Free M4a to MP3 converter." Does anyone know any sort of way that I can speed up this process?

    Thanks for any help.

      iTunes.

Set it up to rip cd's as MP3 - then just open the songs you want in iTunes and right click on them and you'll get the option to convert to mp3 (or whatever format you chose to rip cd's as).

I know this is probably not going to be helpful to you, Blzer... but if you have access to a Linux box, you can use the advice on this page: http://linux.seindal.dk/2005/09/12/c...-files-to-mp3/

As I said, I tried that approach but it would go way too slowly. I have too many songs for that approach. I just didn't know if there was another way.

GIGGAS, I don't have a Linux box, but I'll seek other alternatives still. Worst case scenario is I'll spend 20 hours converting these songs one by one.

That's the one I was using at first. It was actually even slower.

I guess I'm just going to use iTunes and work on this daily if possible.

It's going to take a while no matter what you use, but iTunes is pretty fast. Just select a good chunk of songs and let it do them when you're not using your computer or do it over night.

I would do that, but the only problem is the fan broke on my computer. I can only do it for about 30 minute intervals at a time if that. It's just unfortunate is all.

I use a program called WavePad which allows me to edit songs, etc. to my liking and save the file when I'm done to any kind of audio format. There's a sister program with that called Switch Sound Converter which can convert any audio into anything you desire...does it very fast.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Well, that would have been good to mention to begin with. Replacing a fan can't be all that expensive and can't be hard to do. Plus, for extending the life of your cpu regardless of conveting music files, why wouldn't you?

I believe he's got a laptop, so fan replacement isn't as easy as it would be in a tower.

Also, IIRC, his external hard drive broke too...

Meh, I once created a thread about it but forgot that not everyone read that one. Anyway, I just can't afford giving up my computer for more than a couple of waking hours at a time because of all the school work I have on it and need to keep on it. Plus I don't want to risk losing any data.

WakeUnc2321, that program seemed pretty efficient, but it was kind of a lost cause in a sense because it didn't transfer over the other information (artist, album, etc.) even though it converted to MP3. In short, I would have gone nowhere with it unfortunately. I tried to use a school computer but they have administrative privileges on lock-down so that I can't install any of these programs. We'll see what I have to do from here.

EDIT: Oh, and now for some reason it starts to really chug on iTunes. Copying over one song takes longer than three minutes. I think this computer is just messed up now, which really sucks. You're right that it would be worth getting the fan fixed, but I think I have to wait until Thanksgiving break for that. I would wait for that for my PS3's sake as well, but this is my friend's external HDD that I'm copying everything on and I probably need to return it to him within the next couple of days.
