    Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

Just preorder the pixel 7 pro.

Best Buy is giving me a 275 trade credit for my samsung. I was hoping for a bit more, but oh well, and the T-Mobile activated device is actually 100 cheaper than another carrier or unlocked version. So I'm fairly happy with my total cost.

Also, different places are offering different preorder deals. Best Buy is offering a $200 gift card with preorder which imo is the best preorder bonus being offered anywhere.

I just recently switched from the Apple ecosystem after 4-5 years, I got the Z Fold 4.

It's been an adjustment (before 2017, I was all Android) but we are working on it.

Got the Pixel 7 Pro yesterday. Absolutely loving it so far. For me, i like it much better than any Samsung phone. I just love the pure Android experience and enjoying Android 13.

I also love the call screening feature. I pretty much do everything though Google so it's perfect for me. The camera is next level. I have a bit of a tremor in my hands, and it still stabilizes the pictures well.

Can't wait to try out some astrophotography on some cold clear winter nights.

Forgot to add, got the phone for next to nothing. So Worked out nicely.

Yeah loving the Pixel 7 Pro so far. I've always loved the more natural colors that Pixel phones have vs. Samsung that tends to over brighten them.

Certain hardware specs are pretty annoying for a 2022 phone though. An optical finger print scanner while other flagships have had ultrasonic scanners for a few years now is disappointing. The face unlock trails behind both Samsung and Apple. The phone is cheaper than other flagships, but it also comes with lower benchmarks due to less hardware in other areas too. That is to say, I don't mind having a little less ram or processing power to save on price, but I would have liked for a little more hardware focus in areas that matter in the day to day.

Also, I forgot that on Pixel it requires you to hit enter after typing your pin. A little extra annoyance, especially given the suboptimal finger print & face recognition options for a 2022 flagship.

Those annoyances aside, I am loving the phone. The battery life is great. Pictures are, as I said, amazing, and video is great too. Also really impressed with the zoom. Coming from the Galaxy S21+, the resolution is amazing on 2x and 3x zoom when you want to get in just a little bit closer. The software smoothing on blurry pictures can't perform magic, but it does work pretty well. The display is also very snappy and clear (FYI it is on 1080p by default so you have to change the settings if you want 1440p).

Oh, and I got the phone in Hazel which might be my favorite color on a phone ever.

Do you guys with the Pixel's use the call screening feature? I love it. One of my favorite features of the phone.

Still loving the phone so far, however I don't like the curved screen. I actually thought it was flat this time, which is my fault for not doing the research. It just makes it so much harder to get a good screen protector. I just got a TPU one I'm putting on tonight, but might buy one of the glass ones that cures to the shape.

I also ordered a dbrand case. I used one before and really liked it. Unfortunately it's on backorder and says it ships the end of this month. For now I'm just using a Caseology one I got on Amazon for cheap.

I generally prefer the glass ones anyway. Less prone to bubbles and there is the obvious benefit of screen protection.

I put this one on mine and it fits like a glove. I do agree about not liking curved screens though. I hated it on an old galaxy that I had. Fortunately it's not terrible on the Pixel 7.

Yeah, the curve isn't too bad. And I got one very similar to that and it has been great so far. No bubbles and staying on well. I would prefer glass, but unless this one gets messed up, I'll stick with it for now.

Oops just realized I linked the wrong one.

The film version that I linked earlier I bought as a stop gap because the this other one would not have arrived by the release date.

This is the one that I meant to link.

One separate note. There is apparently a pretty common problem right now with Pixel phones and galaxy watches. I never had a problem getting a full day out of my Watch4, but it was completely dead after about 6 hours after I started using the Pixel. The problem is apparent when you go into your blutooth settings and you will see that it keeps recycling the "connecting" even though the watch is connected fine. Turning off the bluetooth connection completely fixed the problem, and I can still get notifications. I'm not actually sure what functionality is loss in doing that.

I don't have a smartwatch anymore so I can't speak to the issue you're having. I do plan on getting the Google watch at some point, but not able to shell out that money right now. Getting the phone for basically free was still too much for me right now lol. I did have a Fitbit I liked for a while, but had a lot of issues with it.

As far as the screen protector, the glass one you showed me looked like it has a cutout for the fingerprint sensor, does yours have that? If so I don't think I would like that. I'll keep the TPU or whatever it is, one on for now, but probably gonna get the Whitestone Dome glass one here soon. Had that one on a previous phone a while back and really liked it.

Not a cutout exactly, there is still glass protection there. There is a section designed to specifically go over the fingerprint scanner though (not sure if it's thinner material there or what, but it is visibly different). In most cases though you can only see it when the screen is off or the background is very dark.

I used to switch between platforms a lot. Back in 2019 I switched to iPhone and have been using one exclusively since then. On yesterday, I got the Pixel 7. Man this thing is nice.
