Froyo definitely performs better for me on my Droid.

Anyone know how to do the streaming music thing from your home computer? I thought you were supposed to be able to do that...

That'll be on Gingerbread (Android 3.0). The big feature for 2.2 is Wifi hotspot/tethering.

Gotcha...yeah, froyo just has the API's in place for the Gingerbread (probably) update that gives us the actual apps.

Sucks the regular Droid won't have the wireless hotspots, but oh well...

Yeah they took it out when they released Froyo OTA. Which is why I rooted. The clean full version of Froyo has wifi hotspots and a whole bunch of other stuff in it that they took out.

I'll have to figure out if I really care about it to root, we'll see...Not sure I'd use it much, but I dunno

                  Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

Really I only rooted just to overclock initially. But then custom roms and themes came out and I was like wow......pretty cool, makes it looks like you have totally different kind of phone.

I am telling you right now Froyo really shines on 1ghz. That 550mhz speed that stock Moto Droids have lags froyo. I tried it at both speeds and 1ghz makes a huge difference, especially browsing the web.

So now I know without a doubt the next phone I get will have 1ghz. Because in the past before I rooted, I was kind of on the fence about whether or not 1ghz was actually needed on a phone.

It makes a HUGE difference. Apps load faster, screen transitions are faster and web browsing is way faster to the point it feels like you on a laptop then a phone.

Yeah, next year (my contract is up in the fall, but im sure they'll have some sort of early upgrade option) I'll get something faster.

Is it safe to overclock the Droid? I'd be tempted, but I'd hate to brick my phone and have to pay full price for something new.

                      Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

So my Verizon contract is up, the end of this month and I'm thinking about getting the Droid X (my first smartphone). My question is: is it still hard to find? Will it still be hard to get at the end of the month?

                      Thanks!

Nowadays yeah it is safe to overclock the Droid because people have come out with low voltage kernels that makes your Droid run cooler then stock but yet twice as fast. My Kernel can go up to 1.2ghz, but I just have it at 1.1ghz and only on demand when I need the extra power, other then that it drops back down.

Which is another thing, you can set your cpu to run how you want it to run. 1.2ghz all the time, on demand when you need it or even have it setup to scroll down when it reaches a certain temperature.

May be a weekend project...sucks I'd have to re-download all my apps though, ugh.

Then I guess I can always update to new versions easier, rather than waiting for OTA...hmmmm

You don't have to re-download everything. Root, download titanium backup (free version is OK, paid version lets you automate everything saving a half hour+ of clicking install and update for each item), back up apps and user data, install kernel and rom clearing cache and user data, download titanium backup again and run it to restore everything, restart droid and everything will be set up exactly as it was with only a couple of exceptions (email accounts were the only exception I saw).
