    Firefox and new virus protection...

Alright i dont know where i have been, but its time for me to use Firefox instead of internet explorer. I hadnt been using the home computer much so i didnt care about IE vs firefox but now im using it alot more again.

So can you guys recommend a good place to download it (i assume its free) and then a few of the add ons(links) that work best. Iv been reading about the adblocker and whatnot and think its great.

Next my virus protection ran out (mcafee i think) a while back but i didnt have a need to renew as i wasnt using the internet. So are there free reliable virus protections out there? I didnt think there would be but i swear i have seen some people talk about it.

If i do change protections, what would i need to install or uninstall to make sure they dont cancel each other out? I still have xp.

I would greatly appreciate any help figuring out the best solution.

    There is your Firefox download.

Get Windows antivirus for PC & laptop: block viruses & protect against malware. Download AVG AntiVirus Free, now!

Good free anti-virus and anti-spyware. I'm sure some other OSers will have more ideas in this area.

I'm not sure about the canceling out thing; but I'd personally just delete McAfee so you don't get annoying upgrade notifications.

    EDIT: Add-ons

Download Adblock Plus for Firefox. One of the most popular free ad blockers for Firefox. Block annoying ads on sites like Facebook, YouTube and all other websites. Adblock Plus blocks all annoying ads, and supports websites by not blocking unobtrusive ads by default (configurable).

    Add blocker

    Video Downloader

    Screengrab

...and my personal favorite ubiquity. See this video to see what it can do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvjdXNnRMfU

For anti-virus I think AVG is poor. In terms of free ones, prefer this one instead.

AVAST! is one of the best free Anti-virus programs around.

Also there's some cloud something AV program that's supposed to be really good, and really light on your computer.
