I really don't feel like I got my money's worth with the Hauppauge HD PVR

It constantly freezes while recording (I have to go to Task Manager to close it and try again), the files sometimes don't work in Vegas, and the fact that it's not wireless compatible is kinda in the way.

    This thing cost me $300...

That sucks. Maybe you should have auditioned the HAVA Titanium wifi....it's $125 on Amazon (at least back when i got it). It's basically a wireless slingbox that can record HD content in DVD quality (480p). Of course, you can pause, rewind, and forward live content. I have a 1TB external hard drive attached to it. Does a good job...much better than I expected for under $150.

Really Ray? I love mine. I had some trouble getting it to load up a few times but overall it was well worth the money for me.

Would you recommend it for video games? Still shopping around for an HD capture device for my PS3.

It can record from anything that has component cables, S-video or composite--which includes video game consoles. Note, it will take HD content over component and record it in 480p...which is DVD quality.

I usually use it to record tv shows or blu rays to my hard drive.

A seller on amazon has it new for $145 and free shipping. Another has it new for $145 and $7 shipping.

What kind do you have? I was looking at the Dazzle a couple of months ago, but it doesn't record in HD. I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff man. Apple support doesn't help either.

I have the hava wifi HD titanium

Had a prodcut similar to dazzle as well

Looked into the Hauppauge HD PVR

I have a pinaccle video recorder device

Works rather well but you need an external HDD. Basically you dont need a computer to record with this one. You can only use composite cables with it just like the dazzle and record and play in SD

The Hava device allows you to play with component cables and play in HD while you record in 480p. The quality is just fine when you look at what you've recorded, much better than the dazzle or Pinnacle device.

The happpaugue device allows you to record in 1080 and play in HD but you need a really good computer and some good converting software (maybe sony vegas). You can record things into blu ray quality but its more of a pain than the rest.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. You say that's the Hava wifi HD Titanium?

Yeah, that's what I have too. Very easy to set up. And any computer on your network can be set up to use it. Comes in handy when you need to share a tv. One person can be watching DirectTv while another is using the Hava to watch and record a dvd or blu ray.

Doesnt have to be the titanium wifi... get the non wifi version if you want

wifi just allows you to hook it to the network and use it on a 2nd computer in another room with no ethernet wires

Does anyone else use Vegas to import the raw files from the Hauppauge HD PVR? It seems like either when I record something really long (i.e., beyond five minutes), or just whenever it feels like it, importing the files into Vegas will cause Vegas to freeze.

It's not because the file type isn't supported, because some files work. But certain files just won't work no matter what.

You got ripped off then. Even when I bought it at first release, I only paid $250 straight from Hauppauge. Now you can get it closer to $200 from other sites.

Yeah, I use Vegas Pro. What capture format are you using? I use M2TS at 7.0MBps average and I never have a problem. Most of my videos are around an hour (NCAA gameplay) and I don't think I've had any lockups.

Really though, the HD-PVR is great. The only problems I ever had out of it were before I found Vegas and that the captured files weren't compatible with Pinnacle Studio, forcing me to have to convert them to WMV prior to editing. Once I found Vegas though, it's been smooth as butter.
