"Feeling like a Mac standing around a bunch of PC's"
So what does this line me. Is he saying he is like a mac while popular with some
they are a ton more pc's in peoples house. Like music. There are Lupe fans but they are far more people who have Lil Wayne and garbage like that in their house. He thinks Macs are better products than PC's. PC's more popular with the public but the Mac is a better machine. Just like Lupe.
Or am I missing somethig very simple?Comment

Re: Lupe Fiasco - Enemy of the State: A Love Story (Mixtape)
Lupe ability on word play is what make hip hop for me . I had this same discussion in the music thread. Kick and push caught my attention then revenge of the nerds especially the one he did using the ashante beat Handcuffs . people need to listen to that song and really think he does that. Joe budden - "I learned from lupe when you dumb it down it makes it harder to understand"
Streets my perspective on hip hop is much like yours that's what it used to be about. there is no imagination now , why not make the listner think , of all the guys out there now Lil Wayne has the skills to do it and i heard him do it on mixtapes , but he doesn't and its disappointingComment

Re: Lupe Fiasco - Enemy of the State: A Love Story (Mixtape)
Again man, I understand it. He's not for everyone. I'm a fan of witty wordplay, stories, lyricism, messages, originality, creativity, flow, etc. all things he has in spades. I mean instead of simply saying "I was made fun of growing up" he says "The swans in the pond called my duck ugly". Who thinks like that? The way he puts things is very clever. Lupe obviously impresses me, and I agree that the man is a musical genius (sorry ex). I guess, if Lupe doesn't impress you, I'm wondering
1. Why not?
2. Who does impress you?
I only ask because I'm a huge fan of Hip Hop and really don't see many who are on the level Lupe is on. Joe Budden, Biggie, Royce, Em in his prime (RIP), Nas, Jay on his "A" game, mixtape Jada and Fab, etc. They all have aspects of what it is that makes Lupe great, be it lyricism, charisma, storytelling, depth, flow, etc. I guess I'm just curious as to why he "falls short" in your eyes. Also, you said you like a few of his songs. I'm curious about which ones.
I didn't like "The Cool" either when it first dropped and also thought it was overrated. Food and Liquor was one of my favorite albums of all time and I wanted more of that. The Cool was too different for me, and I was underwhelmed. However, I'm glad I gave it more spins because that album grew on me like no other. I went from thinking it was vastly overrated to being vastly underrated. Lupe spits a lot of gems in his lines, songs, albums, and I'm glad I didn't write off that album.
Also, I caught on to his mixtapes late as hell (like, this year). The Fahrenheit series is up there with Mood Muzik and The Bar Exam as my favorite mixtape series. The man takes songs and just makes them his own (Ex, check out Blood Diamonds, Muhammad Walks). He drops songs on mixtapes that are better than a lot of dudes album cuts (Failure, The Pen & The Needlez, Switch, Happy Industries, etc.)http://twitter.com/sageinfinite

It's mean, soldier Now let me put the streets down like steamrollers - Steamrollers pave streets ("putting them down") With the CATS that push - CATS
This (and Dumb it Down) represent the type of insanity that is Lupe Fiasco's lyricism.

Re: Lupe Fiasco - Enemy of the State: A Love Story (Mixtape)
And one more note on Lupe and hip hop in general. Hip hop used to have songwriters that had a lot in common with any other genre. Even though the delivery is different, you would get the same sense of a guy telling a story with an acoustic on his lap, or a girl singing a personal love song while on the piano. Then the 90s hit and the genre became poisoned by many pop culture conventions. I understand that, but I feel that in hip hop it happened to an extent that compromised the core integrity of the music.
Lupe takes me back to the old fashioned songwriter hip hop. He can tell stories freely without having to inhabit a WWE-like persona.Last edited by Bornindamecca; 12-15-2009, 03:24 AM.Comment

Re: Lupe Fiasco - Enemy of the State: A Love Story (Mixtape)
Lupe's definitely one of those artists that's not for everyone. His rhyming style is like a bunch of riddles that you have to figure out.
Now for some people this is great because his songs are ones you can just pick up and listen to all day trying to figure what he's saying. But then its also a negative b/c a lot of folks just want to get to the point.
Luckily for me I love that type of music so Lupe is just great artist to listen too. He kind of reminds me of Serj Tankian from System of a Down. On the surface their lyrics seem like a bunch of crap but if you actually try and figure out what he's saying the songs really come alive.
If you don't want to think that deeply with music then Lupe's definitely not the one for you. Lol I like to think of his music an organized chaos its only going make sense to certain people.Comment

Re: Lupe Fiasco - Enemy of the State: A Love Story (Mixtape)
^ Nope...Lupe just doesn't really "beef"..which is kind of annoying...he actually did a song with Wayne(Some song by Chris Brown)..although I have heard that you may not know who you are going to be featured with..but I doubt it. I wish that he would really push Dumb it Down and start naming the rappers.
I liked this by the way..6-11..the rest of the songs were bleh(I got a split up version-it is the Angels Remix)..the lyricism wasn't top notch, at least for Lupe standards.
Also, Lupe Fiasco is for people who really listen in..you COULD say intelligent people..but that isn't accurate, an accurate generalization though? Yes. But of course some low brow people listen to him...and also some intelligent people don't listen to himComment
