Figured I would post this here since this is a sports forum and this is the best baseball movie I've seen.
Sugar is about a Dominican Republic baseball prospect working his way up through the KC Knights farm system. I'm not sure why they can't use the Royals name since they use other real team names. Maybe it was a conscious decision.
Anyway, it's basically a love letter to baseball and New York. One major strength of the movie that I appreciated is how it tries to capture the authenticity of minor league baseball. For example, it doesn't assume that the viewer won't understand the difference between being sent to Rookie or Single A leagues. So many other movies would just gloss over that...
It's from the writer/director of Half Nelson which probably received some love here.
