Which series should I start watching?

Hey guys, I need a little help deciding on which drama to pick up for my girlfriend and I. My favorite of all time is The Sopranos, followed by Oz, True Blood, 24 and Sons of Anarchy. Since Son's season is coming to an end soon, I'm looking for a new series to fill in some time until the new season of 24 starts.

I'm looking for something that is along the same lines as some of those that I listed above but, also something that isn't too racy. My girlfriend is really religious so, something that has a lot of sex scenes probably wouldn't work for her.

I've complied a list of show's that I've been thinking of watching, as a poll. Vote for your favorite and include any comments (without spoilers, of course) if you so wish, as they would be greatly appreciated. In retrospect, I wish I would have made this thread a little sooner because I need to make a decision sometime tonight bc Amazon has some of the seasons on sale today.

Mad Men.

Mattew Weiner, the show's creator, had something to do with The Sopranos, I do believe.

That and it's just freaking fantastic. Best drama on TV, imo.

I gotta start watching that show.

Personally, I gotta go with dexter. If you have showtime, you need to watch this show. The first 2 seasons are also on Netflix Instant Q.

Considering these critera, I'm not sure I should suggest much of anything ...but Madmen,The Sheild and Rescue me are your safest bets depending on how sensitive her moral compass is.

Well, she watches Sons of Anarchy (because it isn't too bad) and True Blood (but she just turns away during naughty scenes). I tried to watch Nip Tuck with her but, it was a little to trashy for her taste so, she wasn't having it.

The first two seasons and the last season of Six Feet Under were fantastic. I think I missed the others. Probably the best series Finally I have ever seen.

I watched one season of the Wire (the one that focused on the kids and the gang dude, and the Assassin girl that you could barely understand), and it was probably the most intense show I have ever watched.

I voted for Rescue Me before reading the post cause it was my favorite (haven't even seen the others actually but it's my fav live action show anyway) but based on that first part no,not that.

Supernatural was my first thought seeing the topic title but with the religious thing I don't think she'd much like that either.

Try CSI or Criminal Minds or one of those other crime shows.

More than likey, I will just buy the set. Amazon has a sale for the first three season's on BluRay. Which that could be another factor because I believe Dexter and Madmen are the only two available in BluRay. But, I could be wrong. I guess I need to do more research.

I'll have to check out Super Natural but, I'm not really into shows like CSI and Law & Order. I prefer shows with more of a continuing story line.

Out of the choices given, The Shield by far my favorite show ever. Though because of the content, your GF most likely wouldn't enjoy it.

The first season of Dexter would match the criteria your looking for, 2nd season probably not.

I've only started watching The Wire(first few episodes) and I'm loving it.

Haven't seen the others they all captivate you, but of these 3, The Shield is the one I would recommend, but no way your GF would enjoy it.

I thought that about Sons of Anarchy too, but she likes it. But, like I said it isn't too bad. I think there was only one or two parts in the entire two seasons that really made her uncomfortable.

The Wire for sure. It is the greatest show of all time to me. The acting, the heart, the authenticity. I can't say enough, and whoever has seen the entire series will say they love it too.

Now to watch it with your gf and how you described how she has reacted to the other shows then its up in the air. But if you are looking for a continuing story, all 5 seasons are tied in.

It's about the city of Baltimores police, crime, drug dealers, drug addicts, gangstas, politicians all rolled up in one. What makes it special is all the characters involved, which is many. It's not just about cops, its about real cops, bad cops, cops that want to be by the book, and some that are just crooked and dont' care about the city.

Its not your everyday cop show where they have case at the beginning and magically solve it in 1 hour. The criminals are intelligent and disciplined and are always a step ahead of the cops. I can go forever about this show, do yourself a favor and get season 1. I can't guarantee she will like it, but from what you've seen so far I'm sure it'll be one of your favorites.
