My Top 10 Movies Of The Decade

With the decade almost over, I’m going to present my Top 10 Movies of the Decade.
It was extremely hard to come up with a Top 10 list because of the numerous choices available.

    1. The Dark Knight (2008)
    2. The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
    3. Inside Man (2006)
    4. The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
    5. 500 Days Of Summer (2009)
    6. Transformers (2007)
    7. The Hangover (2009)
    8. Old School (2003)
    9. Wedding Crashers (2005)
    10. The Departed (2006)

These are the other movies I debated if they belonged in my Top 10:

    A Walk To Remember (2002)
    Bad Boys 2 (2003)
    The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004)
    Dodgeball (2004)
Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004)
    The Prestige (2006)
    Borat (2006)
    Casino Royale (2006)
    The Lookout (2007)

These are the 3 movies that I missed that I feel like I might have given consideration for my Top 10:

    Insomnia (2002)
    Lost In Translation (2003)
    The Hurt Locker (2009)

I'll have some general thoughts about the movies this decade later.

Re: My Top 10 Movies Of The Decade

        Here are some general thoughts:

        - I think many people predicted big things for the cast of American Pie. We got 2 sequels this decade and only Alyson Hannigan and Sean William Scott are still relevant. I’m excluding John Cho here since his role was so small. Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Shannon Elizabeth, Menu Suvari, and Natasha Lyonne have vanished.

        - We saw 2 “frat packs” emerge this decade. 2000-2005 gave us Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Owen Wlson, and Luke Wilson. 2005 to now gave us Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Bill Hader, James Franco, Craig Robinson, and Judd Apatow. You could even argue a 3rd frat pack has emerged with Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zack Galifianakis, and Ken Jeong. There’s also some overlap between these groups. These guys as a whole dominated the comedy scene this decade.

        - Dakota Fanning did something Haley Joel Osment couldn’t do, start off as a child actor and stay relevant while you get older.

        - In terms of consistent mainstream appeal nobody topped Will Smith:

        2008 – Seven Pounds
        2008 – Hancock
        2007 – I Am Legend
2006 – The Pursuit Of Happyness
        2005 – Hitch
        2004 – Shark Tale
        2004 – I Robot
        2003 – Bad Boys 2
        2002 - Men In Black 2
        2001 - Ali
2000 – The Legend Of Bagger Vance

        - We saw one of the best trilogys in film history with the Bourne series. Heck I might even call it the best of all-time (yep I’m including the Godfather trilogy). There is no need for a 4th film although it looks like we will get one.

What? Was it really that good? Better than the Godfather? Damn, I have to see those movies now. I'm assuming your putting those movies above the Godfather trilogy because the third Godfather was pretty bad.

Adding to some of the trends you posted over this decade of movies, superhero/comic book movies became accepted by everyone. Now superhero/comic book movies are on overkill because of all the success from Batman/Spider-Man/X-Men, etc.

Speaking of Spider-Man, I'm surprised no one has mentioned one of, or both of the first 2 movies. 2 of the best superhero movies of all time IMO.

As for my top 10 list, Tough for me to say which ones are the top 10 of the decade because I haven't seen movies like Benjamin Button, Slumdog, etc. but out of all the movies I've seen, this is my list.

                1. The Dark Knight
                2. Spider-Man 2
                3. Superbad
                4. The Departed
                5. The Wrestler
                6. Old School
                7. Donnie Darko
                8. Wedding Crashers
                9. Blow
                10. Transformers

I know I've probably missed a handful of movies that I loved but that's what came to mind for me.

Just missed the cut: American Pie 2, Disturbia, The Fast and the Furious, X-Men 1 and 2, The Longest Yard, I could go on but I'll stop there.

The Departed is one of those movies that is awesome the first time you see it and seems worse with every subsequent viewing.

I've seen it 2 or 3 times now and the ending is really the only thing I didn't like.

The Godfather trilogy takes a hit because of number 3 while all 3 Bourne films are excellent.

I generally don't have a problem with all the superhero/comic book movies because there's still enough variety out there for people that like different genres.

I really enjoyed Spiderman and Spiderman 2 and thought Spiderman 3 was solid. None of the films were good enough to even merit consisderation in my Top 10 though. I wish Kirsten Dunst wasn't cast as Mary Jane.

                              1. The Dark Knight
                              2. Wall-E (The first half is something special. I strongly feel this should've gotten a Best Picture nom)
                              3. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (Shut up. I love Johnny Depp's performance, okay?)
                              4. The Departed
                              5. Juno (Again, shut up. Ellen Page was terrific in it. I have Oscars to back up my position. Lol.)
                              6. Casino Royale
                              7. Batman Begins
                              8. Knocked Up (Often overlooked in the Apatow cannon, I think it's his best film. Haven't seen Funny People yet, though)
                              9. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (My man crush on Johnny Depp continues)
                              10. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Another underrated Apatow movie)
