I may watch the Episode Joss Whedon directs because NPH is going to guest star. Other than that, the show doesn't have an appeal or me.

Racy "Glee" photos in GQ kick up a storm

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A racy photo shoot for men's magazine GQ featuring three "Glee" cast members raised eyebrows on Wednesday, provoking terms like "creepy" and "pedophilia" and questions over whether the popular TV musical show is becoming over-exposed.

Short skirts, high heels, scanty panties and provocative poses featuring lollipops dominate the November issue photoshoot featuring Lea Michele (Rachel), Dianna Agron (Quinn) and Corey Monteith (Finn) that plays with the high school setting of the Emmy-award winning television show. All three actors are in their 20s.

The Parents Television Council watchdog group said the photos "border on pedophilia," given the adult male readership of GQ. "This is just the latest example of the overt sexualization of young girls in entertainment," the PTC added.

"Glee", a sometimes dark, subversive comedy featuring a high school choir, has taken U.S. pop culture by storm since its 2009 debut. Superstars like Madonna, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga readily agreed to license their songs to the show.

The program has produced three best-selling albums, won two Emmys and deals boldly with issues like sex, disability, and gay bullying. It is regularly watched by some 13.4 million U.S. viewers and has a strong youth following.
Broadcaster Fox on Wednesday declined to comment on the PTC statement. But GQ editor in chief Jim Nelson said that the watchdog group "should learn to divide reality from fantasy."

"As often happens in Hollywood, these 'kids' are in their twenties. Cory Monteith's almost 30. I think they're old enough to do what they want," Nelson said

Bob Thompson, professor of popular culture at Syracuse University, brushed off the PTC comments, noting that "Glee" had never been a "kiddie show" despite attracting teens.

"From the very beginning, 'Glee' has dealt with pot, teen pregnancy and gay sexuality.

"This is a show that has definitely got adult themes. The GQ shoot demonstrates it isn't just a show for teeny boppers," Thompson told Reuters.
But Salon.com writer Mary Elizabeth Williams said GQ's playing up of the sexy teen angle was "just creepy".

Los Angeles Times TV writer Mary McNamara, noting that Monteith remains fully clothed, expressed dismay that young women still feel the need to pose so provocatively. Michele, she wrote "seems to be auditioning for a live action version of Japanese anime porn."

The Washington Post's Celebritology blog said the GQ shoot was "the latest evidence that the 'Glee' hype machine might be starting to spiral out of control".

Thompson said he had long felt that "Glee" is over-rated by the media. But he noted that one of its consistent themes was tolerance and "that's a pretty good message for a kid, even though it gets there with a lot of dicey content."

They know how to spark some controversy, I'll give them that. It'll be interesting to hear what OS has to say on this matter. My crush on Lea grows more each day, lol.

On a different note, I've REALLY been enjoying this season. A very solid show that doesn't get a lot of love on here.

The "controversy" is a bunch of noise IMO. "Bordering on pedophilia?" Uhhh, no.

I'm with ya Streets, Glee is my favorite show on TV right now, and usually I HATE musicals. It's got comedy, a little drama, some great tunes, and Lea is easy on the eyes.

I've tried to watch it twice. Was horribly upset they ruined the Doors,AC/DC and Beatles in one show. The second time I turned it off halfway through because I just didn't like it. I'll give it a 3rd shot for Rocky Horror but that's it.

People fussing over nothing again with those pics.

I watched the Britney Spears episode and fell in love with the cheerleader Britney. I remember seeing her dance back-up to Beyonce on SNL once.

I have since watch every episode of Season 2 and on Episode 8 of Season 1.

I don't watch the show, so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about as it just seems like a typical publicity stunt. I'm just guessing, but I would assume this show isn't a major hit for guys (I don't know anybody that watches it and all the girls on facebook do Glee status updates) so doing a photo shoot for a men's magazine where two of the show's actresses are scantily clad is obviously geared to them. To me, it has nothing to do with teenage girl "role models" and the even more ridiculous "underage porn". Parents always have a way of overreacting.

The brunette pics are borderline trashy at the worst, if not horribly trying too hard. I just find it funny that if it was the opposite way (ie: girls clothed, guy in his boxer shorts) and in a woman's magazine nobody would freaking care.

As for the pictures: Much ado about nothing. As Dianna Agron states in her apology: Why do kids have a copy of GQ magazine?

I agree with her. It's not a kid's magazine. It's not even geared toward teenagers. So, why should their actions, photos be scrutinized as if it was?

That's like a kid flipping to Showtime and a parent arguing that the content is offensive for children. Shouldn't your child be watching Nickelodeon?

That was much better than the other 2 (1 & a half) I've seen. Even though they had a lot of people singing the wrong parts and that sort of thing.

I liked the first season better. It was funnier. But this season is still solid. They've done a good job of bringing in the new character (Sam... don't know what they have planned for the new girl who joined Vocal Adrenaline) without shoving him down our throats. He's assimilated pretty well.

It's funny, maybe the Rocky Horror episode was a bit of a statement towards the "too mature" controversy. Since the debate over whether it was too mature for the HS kids they depict or not raged on throughout the episode.

something about Heather Morris that excites me. I watched the Britney episode and was hooked on it and watch entire 1st season during my 60 hour work week.

Whats up with the guy playing piano, what does he do with his life. Always there and ready to bust out a song.
