    eReader...

Does anyone have an eReader on this forum?

I've been doing some research and have decided I'd like to pick one of them up, I'm just not sure which model to go with.

I like the price point of the Sony Pocket Reader but I'm wanting to hear some personal reviews about some people with a ER.

Not sure if you got one or not, but I've got a B&N Nook shipping to me this week...

I went with that over the Kindle (and iPad) because they won't support the ePub format that my library uses. Sony supports that, but I wasn't as big on the touch screen ones they have and just liked the Nook better. I'm sure the Nook has its issues, but should be good to use with my library.

I wanted something that made it easier to read books for free, and I just found out that my library is part of a Phoenix collective that has a lot of ebooks and audio books I can use for free (still have to check stuff out, but the waiting should be less than for physical books).

I'll let you know what I think when I get it, but tested a model at a B&N store and liked the feel/weight of it. I doubt I'll be buying tons of new books though, at least until the industry figures out a DRM standard (Kindle, B&N, Apple, etc all have their own formats), so it's not a completely perfect long term book replacement I think.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'd like to ask mgoblue a question.

How do you find out if a library is part of Phoenix? And are books sent to your ecard via wireless and then removed after a specific due date? Basically, how do they avoid theft. Just interested.

Now to answer the OP's question.

I tested out my iPhone for this using the Kindle app and seem to like it. I'm not really in the market for an eReader so hard for me to judge. The only one I've seen is the Kindle and I thought it was amazing.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

My library website had a link to the co-op website shared by all the libraries in the Phoenix area. I log in using my normal library online login, and then in that separate site I have my account, books on hold, checked out, etc.

For the books on there you have to use Adobe Digital Editions software that allows you to put the books on the Sony or Nook readers (as well as read them on the computer if you prefer).

I believe they just expire and you no longer have access after the date, so if you try and read it you'll probably get a message...don't have the reader yet so can't say for sure...

I'd see if your library's website has any links to e-books and whatnot and go from there...they'll have FAQ's that tell you what you need to do to use them...

Sucks that the Kindle doesn't support the ePub format, otherwise I'd probably have gotten that.
