    xbox 360 HDMI adapter

I was told I could connect my older xbox 360 (withOUT the hdmi port) to my HDTV with an adapter of some sort. After looking it up on the internet, I'm still a little confused as to what I need exactly.

Has anyone experienced this and could offer any help?

    Thanks!

If your HDTV has a PC input that would actually be better than component cables. A VGA cable would allow you to upconvert DVDs to the highest resolution instead of limiting you to 480p.

No upconversion is allowed on component cables.

I had wondered if 360 upconverted, didn't really care that much to look it up though. I didn't know it was the cables that would prevent it though.

Yep. 360 can, but only through HDMI or VGA cables. Copy protection prevents it through component cables.

The backstory is I was debating whether or not to get a new 360 because mine kept on breaking down (RROD, but I'm getting it fixed for free) and then I'd get a sharper picture on my HDTV. That's basically all I want, a sharper picture...is it possible? or should I sell my old one and grab a new one that has the HDMI port?

              Thanks!

In theory, You MIGHT see a slightly better picture. In actuality, I doubt it. DVDs would look better (due to upconversion), but that's it.

if your xbox doesn't have the HDMI out then it doesn't matter whether you use one of those component to HDMI converters, your picture isn't going to improve

Hmmmm....I've been reading about this and it seems like most people agree with you, although there are some folks that says it makes things much sharper. I only have a 1080i tv though.

Maybe I'll just try to sell my old 360 and try to pick up a cheap one on craigslist.

Thanks for your help! If anyone has had a positive experience with the converter, please chime in, thanks!

Sorry for the additional question but...

So if I have a 1080i tv, would upgrading to an hdmi port xbox 360 noticeably improve my picture of my component cables now?

                      Thanks!

no. PQ can't get any higher than the tv it's being displayed on. besides, i don't think there are any 360 or ps3 games that are natively 1080p.

                        only blu rays and HD-DVDs....

thanks, so what you're saying is that the component cables are already 'producing' up to 1080i on my games?

exactly, the component cables allow your xbox to use the highest resolution possible for it since it doesn't have an HDMI port. connecting an HDMI adapter isn't going to magically change the analog component signal into a higher quality digital one. I would think it would degrade the pq a little bit if anything because you're adding one more thing for the signal to have to pass through.

right, so right now i have a non-hdmi xbox and a 1080i tv with component cables. So if I get an hdmi xbox and hook it up, I won't get a better picture than what I have now. I think I'm finally clear on this, right?
