What celebrities ACTUALLY write their own books?

I was watching Get Rich or Die Tryin' last night on MTV (great way to start this thread... I know), and I remembered that 50 Cent had written a book a few years ago. So, I was interested in checking it out as I've realized lately the glory of reading books while taking a dump.

Well, I figured out pretty quickly through some research that it was likely written by a ghost writer -- in this case, Kris Ex -- but probably had a lot of input by 50 Cent. The same thing goes for his co-operative effort with Robert Green to write The 50th Law. I'm sure 50 Cent had some input, but Greene wrote the book.

All these books and auto-biographies by celebrities and people who think they're celebrities: how many do you think are truly written by the person credited on the cover of the book? And who likely wrote their own book(s)?

Mick Foley wrote his own book. That is it that I know off the top of my head to be honest.

Most of them have ghost writers because most celebrities and entertainers arent lit-majors and dont know how to format and edit a book properly so its readable.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

Yep most don't write their own books because of the reasons mentioned above.

The only person off the top of my head other then Foley would be Barack Obama as his first book was completely written by him alone. His 2nd book did have a co-writer/ghost writer though.

              Yup

The Wall Street Journal had an article about this a few weeks ago. The author said the problem wasn't that celebrities were incapable of writing but that they'd write 300 pages that covers up through their 12th birthday.

If anyone here has seen Damages, you might have an idea on how this usually works.

Celebrity pretty much talks to the writer and through those notes the writer creates the book.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer
