    Lost In Translation

I’ve been wanting to see this movie for a long time and I finally got around to it. For a movie with a very limited plot, I thought it was fantastic. The cinematography was top notch and the performances by Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson really elevated the film. It’s stunning that Johansson was only 18 years old when this movie came out. She showed maturity beyond her years.

The movie captured the feeling of isolation and emptiness. I know some people that hated the ending but I thought it was perfect. In my opinion, the clichéd ending would have hurt the film.

Looking back it was a very good movie, I just didn't like it at the time because all the hype around it made my expectations really high.

I never "got" this movie. Everyone raved about it...I rented it and couldn't wait for it to end.

Loved this one, always have, always will. When I was working at Blockbuster a few years ago, someone asked me for a recommendation. I directed them towards the "Employee Picks" section which at that time I believe I had Lost in Translation, Clerks and The Office (British version). So they grabbed Lost in Translation and the next day they came back and complained to the manager that "This was the biggest piece of ****, I've ever seen." The manager, not wanting to lose a customer, gave them a free rental. They came back up to the register with Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector and it all made sense to me then.

                      Re: Lost In Translation

This movie is definitely in the Top Ten of the decade IMO. I loved the feeling of isolation and emptiness. Bill Murray was the perfect guy for the role and in many respects this movie was the one that served notice that he could do drama just as well as he could with comedy. Sure the movie didn't have much plot to it but it's not a plot driven movie. It's a movie where you discover these characters and you follow them for a time and see what their lives are like.

It's a most atypical film for North America as it had the feel of European Cinema where things are quieter and it takes more then just plain old watching of the movie to understand what's going on. You really have to sit there and study the events in the film.

I loved the movie but typically my father thought it was crap.

I loved it because I love Japan and it reminded me of my first time there.

Not that I was old, famous and there for a commercial and wanted to hook up with a younger chick but because I felt lost, alone and empty at times and by the end of it didn't want to leave.

                        Great acting too.

Absolutely fantastic film in all regards. It just rips your heart out at the end because you just know they are never going to see each other again. Damn near brings a tear to my eye every time.

Also, if you guys like Murray in this one you should also check out Broken Flowers if you haven't already.
