Changing Channels on Wireless Router

Recently my wireless signal has been dropping for no apparent reason. At least not apparent to me. Anyway, I've been unplugging the router and the cable modem and plugging them back in, and that will usually restore the signal. Not the end of the world, but this has been becoming a pain in the butt as the wireless signal will drop 1-2 times a week. So, through some research, I see that changing the channel on the router might help this.

My questions are, after doing this, will the router automatically detect that I changed channels and work as usual without me doing anything else and any opinions on if this will fix my problem? Thanks!

I would suggest unplugging it for about 30 seconds after changing the channel just to be sure.

The router has nothing to do with your channel.

Once you do it, any device that connects to it with know because all that information is given to the device when establishing a connection.

Yes, it will automatically detect it changed and connect still. I would suggest changing it to 1 or 11. Six is the default channel.
