Best way to record DVR to DVD?

What's the best way to burn shows from my DVR to a DVD? I don't have a stand alone DVD recorder and from reading online it sounds complicated to go from the DVR box, to my PC, and then to a DVD disc. Anyone tech smart with some good advice for me?

People on here seem to know as much as me on the topic.

I dont know either, Ive got Comcast and back when I looked into this I ran into a road block as Comcast DVR's have some sort of protection so the shows cant be ripped or transfered from the DVR in anyway so I gave up at that point.

I have Comcast as well but my DVR box is Motorolla and I've read of other people burning from them.

Well if you ever figure it out then let me know as I also have a Motorola box and was always told it was impossible because of the security they use for each show that gets recorded. I know it has a USB port on it, not sure if thats for updates only, but I might try plugging in my thumb drive and seeing if I can copy files over to it. I seriously doubt it would work but I could give it a shot at some point just to see.

I remember my dad once recorded The Departed when we watched it OnDemand with our Comcast box. I don't know how he did it, but the quality wasn't that great anyway.

You may need something like this:
                http://www.amazon.com/HAVA-Titanium-...2229588&sr=8-1

Can be found cheaper than that price if you look around.

I have taken stuff off of a motorola DVR, it's just a pain in the ***.

Essentially you had to connect the cable box to the PC with firewire (there was a driver to install). Then you had what was essentially a TV in through the firewire and used a program to record the incoming stream, the DVR doesn't send the menus over the firewire, just the pure video signal. Since things had to play real time, it took forever, but it worked.

but it controls your tv as well as records and does playback.

It also will play for you remotely if you have a compatible phone or PC tablet

All you need is an exernal HDD to save a large tv file or your laptop then do your thing

i paid $110 on amazon about 6 months ago

works like a charm on Directv, blu rays and anything else records at DVD quality

files get big though. one college football game is almost 9 GB

Re: Best way to record DVR to DVD?

About 6 or 7 months back I did a lot of research on this as I was searching for something similar that would allow me to record sporting events, TV shows, etc., and back them up on my hard drive.

Burns 11 is correct as firewire is a way to go. I ended up getting an HD-PVR. I have a Mac driven network at home so I use Eye TV as the recording software.

Just need to connect the DVR to the HD-PVR via component and the HD-PVR to your computer. The component connection allows it to bypass any signal block (can't remember the exact term).

Recordings are pretty solid as you can set the quality level. I usually just max out all recordings but they can get up there in size. The only issue I have is that the recordings are for lack of a better word a little 'dim'. The Windows software that comes with it, I believe allows you to set color patterns. None of the Mac software does.

                          Thats the Hauppague HD PVR

Thing needs a pretty strong computer to work then specific software to convert...

Whats good about it though is it plays and records in full 1080.

Might be more of a hassle than the hava though.
