Artie Lange tried to commit suicide

I know he needs help. But stabbing yourself seems like a cry for attention to me.

Sad, but not really a surprise.

I'm pretty sure he won't be returing to the Stern Show and I predict he won't be on this earth for much longer after that. I think the show was the only thing to distract him from his demons and without that sense of purpose every day, he won't last much longer.

I always got the sense he wants to die young and be like his idol, Belushi.

Everything i've seen and heard about the guy leads me to believe he's hurting inside. I gotta agree with born_bad if he's not on the Stern show then his life will have no purpose or meaning at all and he'll eventually off himself.

Re: Artie Lange tried to commit suicide

Howard revealed that his hand has been forced by a story about Artie's suicide attempt in Page Six ("I was actually hoping it wouldn't come out.") and had to offer his comment: "I don't know what to think. I'm angry about it. I'm sad about it. I'm all over the place emotionally." Howard directed most of his anger at the worm who leaked the details of Artie's condition: "I'm pissed off at the ****head who got paid by – who? Page Six."

Howard hoped the story would go away and allow Artie to heal privately: "This is a family matter. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to say...just remember who Artie is and what a wonderful guy he is...he's wrestling with some serious stuff...I only wish him well." Howard tried reading the Page Sex item, but stopped after just eight words: "I just feel sick about this. I don't even wanna read it."

Howard repeated: "I don't want this to sound like a eulogy. Artie's alive, by the way. It was a suicide attempt." Howard added that he was unsure of Artie's future with the show ("I haven't spoken with Artie. Robin has. Tim has...I'm just freaked out. I don't know what to do. I figure if Artie wants to talk to me he'll call me.") and offered one final comment: "My thoughts go to his mother and his sister who I'm sure are in great pain."

He should already be dead, I have no pity or sadness to him or his family. They know the mess he has become, it's just a matter of how soon.

So Stern thinks Artie should call him? If your so call friend or someone you care about is in trouble like that, why don't you reach out and contact him? Others were able to, but for some reason Howard wants to wait for Artie to call him?

Thats a pretty terrible thing to say, despite his being a public figure we never know what is really going on behind the scenes or even what demons he carried around before he became famous.

I love artie and the howard stern show, so I wish that he recovers and can get whatever help he needs.

Apparently Artie has not kicked his Heroin addiction, which is why attempted suicide. This seems like a cry for help if anything, If he really wanted to do the deed he would have succeeded.

Personally I like listening to stern more when it is just Howard, Robin, and fred. Unfortunately for Artie, Belushi died when he was Icon, I do not see Artie ever reaching Belushi's popularity.

I am not shocked about this one. Hope he can get some help. I liked him on Mad TV, but that is pretty mush it. I don't get his humor on Stern's show. Any way, like I said before hope he gets the help he needs.

You treat such a horrible event with respect dude. Who knows where Artie's head is at, he did try to take his own life, there is no protocol. Howard is doing the smart thing and giving him his space. It's akin to calling a friend after their parents die. You don't call that day, or sometimes even that week or month. You show respect and give them their time.

I'm the opposite. I love Artie's presence on the show and thought his Mad tv stuff (and acting stuff) sucked. Artie's ability to manufacture wit on the spot is genius but his acting doesn't do it for me. He is perfect for radio, tv not so much.

I'll be honest, I always thought Artie was a bit of a jerk and a loser. That said though, you never like to see/hear stuff like this. I hope the guy can get himself straightened out. I'd imagine a lot of his persona stems from some hidden demons.

I like some of the role he did on Mad TV. I agree he is good on the spot though.
