And the twist is ridiculous. I expected more since my friends hyped it up soo much."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

By the end I was like, "Ohhh, that's pretty neat." But I don't see myself ever wanting to watch it again.

Re: The Book of Eli
Spoilerwhy was there an apocalypse?
Why did they burn all the bibles?
How the hell does a blind man travel from place to place kicking *** and picking up items to trade?
How the hell did he work his ipod, and know it was out of battery?"I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: The Book of Eli
SpoilerThe first 2 I'm not sure of.
The 3rd question is obvious. Big guns upstairs helped guide him. As long as he was carrying out that mission he was basically invincible, which is why he died as soon as his mission was complete.
IDK what you mean by this. Eli was alive during the Apocalypse so I'm sure he knew how to work an iPod.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: The Book of Eli
Spoiler
1. It was a nuclear apocalypse. They mention flashes a few times.
2. Because they thought you could use religion to control the people.
3. It's clearly implied that God helped him.Comment

Re: The Book of Eli
I didn't find the plot very effective because...
SpoilerThe villain's behavior is questionable. Even, if he had known Eli was blind and the bible was in braille, wouldn't he have killed him for it anyway? A braille bible is a lot better than no bible at all if they are truly that rare. With that bible in his possession, he just needs to find a book that teaches how to read braille. Unless the apocalypse was blamed on religion AND literate blind people, that should put him a lot closer to his goal. Sure, his gang is in shambles, but that would have happened even if the bible was in a readable format.
Also, the twist seems superficial. If Eli hadn't said it was a King James' bible and it was revealed to be in Chinese or something at the end, wouldn't everything have played out the same way? Unless him being blind has biblical significance, it seems like a cheap way to manufacture drama. To me, it was silly because Oldman's character immediately assumes that the guy who just massacred so many people was blind since he could read braille. If it were me, I would assume Eli was a trained killer with eyes that work who can read braille and keeps it up because he has a treasured braille bible.

Re: The Book of Eli
SpoilerIt also makes sense because he was told to go west. That was his order. Simple enough once you actually figure out west Also, he could smell (or was it taste) the salt in the air before Solara couldAnd may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: The Book of Eli
Very interesting. I actually didn't get or even think I was supposed to get that he is blind.
I may have to watch again to see, but really I thought he just had the ability to read brail. What events if any caused you guys to conclude he was indeed blind. I actually think he had great eyesight and even seemed to visually recognize people.
For example the house with the cannibals. Didn't he spot the house, know exactly where to go and even notice the shaking hands?
The store to get his ipad juiced and know where it was hooked up and told the guy to unhook it etc...also seeing the badguys when he left.
To me there is no way he was blind or that we were to think he was (on pure recollection of the movie i saw a few days ago).
I think it's much more likely that he taught himself brail or he already knew how to from before because of any reason (Family member, job etc.)
I the end it was a cool movie to me and one that I fully enjoyed. Was it a masterpiece...no, but I wasn't expecting one. Quite a solid flick to me, and interesting take/story concerning the whole religious aspect (I'm not religious at all). In fact I saw Washington credited as a I believe and exec producer, which I immediately drew a small comparison to Mel Gibson, in that I hypothesized that he probably cares deeply enough for his faith that he wanted to help finance a movie that kind of spreads the value of christian faith.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment
