Yeah, I just installed it. Avira is supposedly slightly better at virus detection, but the free version has ads that constantly pop up.

Avast is pretty good. The only thing I don't like is that sounds are enabled by default. I always turn them off so it doesn't tell me when the virus database was updated.

There is a way to turn off the Avira add pop-up.

This wikiHow teaches you how to remove most of the pop-up ads from Avira Antivir's free version. Keep in mind that you cannot disable the daily reminder to update to Avira Pro, nor can you disable the Phantom VPN reminders that...

Anyone still using this? For some reason today it wont stop telling me that I need to update it yet when I attempt to do just that it says there isnt an update as I have the most current version. On top of that, I keep getting notifications from Windows that the virus protection might be out of date as well, yet I cant update it. Im currently running version 100228-0. If anyone is getting this same message and has fixed it, what did you do exactly?

EDIT- Nvmnd, I had to download it from the website which acted as an update only to find out it was still prompting me within the program itself but now it actually updated it when I clicked on it. Now I apparently have the updated version as it no longer shows that I need to update it anymore.

AVAST now >> AVG. Not a system hog and I can turn it off when I want to without going through an act of Congress to turn it back on. No problems here on 2 pc's.

I've been using it for about 2 months now and I like it. It's light on resources, updates instantly when i turn my computer on and protects from bad websites.

hmm - I still get the old, ugly Avast! layout.
