HD TV blacks out. Help I yelped!

While playing MK II online, the only finishing move I saw was on my TV. That's right it blacked out on me. It went out, then I freaked, I switched from HDMI1 mode to TV mode, and it came back on. So I kept paying and it did it again. I jumped out of the match dismayed, talked to my wife about it as she saw it too, and then I shut the gaming console off and tried to watch TV to see if it is a console related issue, an HDMI1 related issue, or if I could catch it happening on the TV mode as well. Sure enough, it happened again a minute later when watching TV.

The only new thing that has happend lately is that I've added a dual band wireless N router, but I seriously doubt it is that. Any suggestions that don't include stabbing myself with a plastic spork?

Notes: TV was purchased at Wal-mart in the fall, it is a vizio, and it is model V0370M.

Did the picture just black out? Can you hear the sound?

Or did the TV completely turn off?

I think, as i understand his post, his tv went off and came back on. That's exactly what kept happening to me on my set at random. once I reseated the power cord that plugs into the back of the tv firmly it quit happening. Of course it's also possible his cord plugging into the wall is 95% in and just needs reseated as well.

I don't think it'd be his HD cord or the tv wouldn't have turned off and back on but went to a "NO SIGNAL" picture.

Ok, I was a test it out last night for an hour. Turns out, very slightly was my PS3 plug unplugged, therefore it would only black out for a second. Which, now that I think about it, does not explain why it would black out in TV mode. I did have all of the plugs plugged in firmly before testing everything out. I tested the PS3 out for an hour with no problems, and in TV mode I tested it out for 2 hours with no problems.

Thanks for the answers (and questions). For now, let's see how this goes, maybe it wont' happen again. Thanks again.

Ok, so what do I do if this happens again and it isn't the cords? Take the TV back? The TV will be on in HDMI or TV mode, and I can hear the sound but see no picture. This seems to only happen once a month.

This time, I was in HDMI mode when it blacked out. I unplugged the HDMI cord so the TV would then say "no signal", I then plugged that cord back into the back of the PS3, and then the picture would come back, only to fade out 10 seconds later.

If I switched it to TV mode, it did the same thing. Now, it isn't doing it right now but I'm concerned I have a TV that may need to be returned before the warranty is up...assuming there is a warranty.

Totally agree with GC here. If it's within return period take-it back.

Ok, I slated today as the day to take it back. I couldn't find the receipt (not funny, but I'm "SMH"), so I called Wal-Mart to see what their return policy is. They told me anything over 90 days old needs to go through the manufacturer, and anyone that doesn't have a receipt has to do the same thing. At least I have my original paperwork that came with the TV as well as the box. I just don't want to ship this baby away leaving me with nothing else to use.

                            Decisions, decisions.

Is it still under 30 days? And how did you pay for it? If you paid with a debit or credit card and it's in the 30 day return period Walmart will take it back and exchange. It will require a supervisor or manager override. The only way they won't take it back is if you have made a bunch of returns without the receipt.

Make sure you take everything with you: tv, box, remote, manual, paperwork, debit/credit card used, and your drivers license.

Never had a problem returning stuff to Walmart or Target. Best Buy is another story. They like to give you the run around and pretend they can't look up a previous purchase (at least the ones in Columbia, SC).
                              Good luck
