Well they already have that orkut.com site, but the US never accepted it, and it's only big in Brazil for some reason. They're pretty much just combining two of their services no one cared about, and forcing it through the popular gmail.
I doubt I'll ever use this, but I guess it's better for google to keep trying new things instead of buying up facebook or twitter.Comment

It seems like other then Gmail and Reader they haven't perfected much of their new online applications.
