I just find it interesting because they aren't keeping it a secret that they are trying to topple facebook with this new application.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Well they already have that orkut.com site, but the US never accepted it, and it's only big in Brazil for some reason. They're pretty much just combining two of their services no one cared about, and forcing it through the popular gmail.
I doubt I'll ever use this, but I guess it's better for google to keep trying new things instead of buying up facebook or twitter.
I love google but I wish they wouldn't try and get their hand in EVERYTHING.
It seems like other then Gmail and Reader they haven't perfected much of their new online applications.
Why release Buzz when you guys haven't even perfected Google Wave yet? I know they aren't the same people working on these projects, but it starting to give me the feeling that Google has a ton of great ideas but is executing some of them poorly.
