Re: Kevin Smith deemed too fat to fly for Southwest
He's fat but i've seen much fatter people go on planes without issue. Southwest got a lot of bad publicity a while ago (last year I think) when they forced a woman off the plane because she was dressing "provocatively". Sadly for them she wasn't wearing anything revealing or some such. It was actually pretty conservative compared to a lot of things women get away with in public.

I have no issue with the policy. Buy a seat in first class if you cant sit in coach. This guy right here should have to buy 2 seats.
I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....Comment

The real problem is how there's an apparent lack of guidelines, and it seems to be a judgment call at some point way down the line. Passengers should be told up front, if you don't meet conditions A, B, and C, you need to buy two seats or start walking there. It won't even get to the point where they have to be yanked off a plane.Comment

Re: Kevin Smith deemed too fat to fly for Southwest
That said, according to the story I heard (reported by Mike and Mike yesterday I think), James actually had bought 2 seats but was allowed to fly standby so he got on an earlier flight...
They also said he is claiming he was thrown off because the stewardess didn't like his work.
Which would beg the question, if he bought two seats, he probably did it for a reason. Why would he think flying with one seat would be a good idea?Comment

Re: Kevin Smith deemed too fat to fly for Southwest
I agree with you and the policy (if there is one), I have long legs so plane rides for me are uncomfortable as it is and there is nothing more uncomfortable than sitting next to someone who should probably have two seats.

But I'm someone who is short, and a coach seat is more than enough room, and I don't need someone who is 6'6+ creeping into my space. You should be forced to buy two seats or upgrade to first class.Comment

Re: Kevin Smith deemed too fat to fly for Southwest
I think at some point a person should have to purchase a 2nd seat. If a passenger is impeding on another's personal space or making it uncomfortable for them then something is wrong. The other passengers have just as much right to a good experience as persons in question.
This is coming from a big guy.Comment

Re: Kevin Smith deemed too fat to fly for Southwest
Airlines in Europe I think Air France or KLM are already making fat people buy 2 seats.
I think airlines here in America should do the same. But it is a tough subject. What is fat? Where do they cut the line at? What is some huge muscular dude takes up as much space as a fat guy does he have to buy 2 tickets?
But like the picture posted in this thread it is a safety hazard. What if the airline had to make an emergency landing or what if that guy was on US Airlines flight that went into the Hudson? Would he of been able to get up in time? What about the person sitting next to him.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Luckily there's alternative transportation for unfunny fat people who are unable to ride commercial aircrafts. Just ask John Madden to scootch over on the bus. On a serious note, hopefully United Artists will deem him too fat to make movies.Last edited by Adam Dayton; 02-18-2010, 03:27 AM.Comment

Re: Kevin Smith deemed too fat to fly for Southwest
I flew on some crap airline once, Spirit Airlines, from LaGuardia down to Myrtle Beach and the row I was in was so small I could not sit down. I had to sit in one of the stewardess' fold-down chair things in the back.
I'm not going to pay extra just because I'm tall, build your damn planes bigger, it's not the 1950's - there are more and more tall people. I keep my *** in great shape, I'm not a tub of lard. I can't help it I'm 6'8 and there's no way I'm paying extra because of my height.
Anyway, when did Kevin Smith get THAT fat? He seems pretty short, I'd guess he's like 5'10 240 lb at the most. He should easily fit into one seat."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
