I am looking at this right now. Its not small 15.6" screen but it can handle HD and has 4 GB of ram and you can upgrade the processor to a T6600 or T9300.

If you are strictly looking at dell they also has a 13" model that includes and optical drive and pretty good screen.

I think the problem is he doesn't want to get too expensive and most of the 13" models are pricier (unless they use the Atom and shirk on the RAM).

When you do work with programs like Photoshop, you'll feel it. But like I said, for her, she should be good.

Word isn't exactly going to chug that bad boy down.

Just make sure it doesn't become her primary computer. She will start to use it a bit more heavily and the bottleneck will become more apparent. I use my laptop for trouble-shooting, web browsing and email and it's perfectly adequate.

Good advice, as usual...

The primary is at work...this is to tide her over until she drops $1,500 on a loaded iBook in 6-12 months...

The idea behind a mini is that it's a stopgap until then that will still have a purpose as a 'handbag' / travel size thing down the road...

Yeah, this is a stopgap purchase that will hopefully have purpose down the road as a cheap portable (but reasonable quality) to travel with...

Still liking that Aspire with the 2GB and the better processor, as a result...

When she's ready to spend some money she should not get an iBook but instead a MacBook Air. Trust me that you would never want to go back to a 5 pound laptop once you've gotten used to using the Air @ 2 pounds. Not to mention the 3 to 3 1/2 hours of battery life the Air gets.

When she's ready to spend some money she should not get an iBook but instead a MacBook Air. Trust me that you would never want to go back to a 5 pound laptop once you've gotten used to using the Air @ 2 pounds. Not to mention the 3 to 3 1/2 hours of battery life the Air gets.

Yeah I was not a Mac person but I was looking for a lighter option for a laptop with longer battery life. I owned a 15" Dell which gets about one hour battery life and weighs about 5 pounds and frankly I was sick of it. So I got a Macbook Air @ Best Buy for $1400 when the new ones rolled in and they marked down the old ones (same machine just smaller hard disks).

Now I recommend the MacBook Air as, by far, the best laptop you can buy, even if you're not a Mac person. It's freakin fantastic because it's so light, it gets great battery life and it even plays games decently. I play the Sims 3 on it and it runs fine. Highly recommend the Air!!

While I like my MBA, it's severely underpowered.

When she's ready to spend the money, she'll probably enjoy the Macbook Pro a bit more. Especially since they'll most likely receive updates here shortly.

Don't know what you're using your MBA fir but I've never run into anything that it's underpowered for. It's just fine for browsing the net, emails and some light gaming.

Compared to a MBP, which are in the same price range, they are under-powered.

Just opening programs result in the pinwheel, whereas they don't on your typical MBP.

Most if not all laptop and desktop new buys comes with a free upgrade disk for windows 7. Aces does as well just check out their site.
