Re: MLB All Star Game in 3-D
I would jump on a 3D-TV if it were cost-beneficial for me right now. But I'll wait for a long time heh.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB All Star Game in 3-D
There have actually been numerous sporting events in 3D... The Super Bowl the last 2 years and many of the BCS Bowl Games have been in 3D.
I was lucky enough to see a demo on a 3D TV and to be honest...I didn't think it was all that great and am not sure it will catch on. I was actually considering purchasing one late this summer when my wife and I upgrade our 46" DLP, but will pass and get a 60-65" Plasma.Comment

Re: MLB All Star Game in 3-D
I really hope 3D is more of a supplemental rather then supplanting HD or what have you. I only more or less have one good eye and thus the depth perception is not there. I would have ZERO use for 3D.
Besides, I've heard that 3D has led to some people getting seriously ill and other such side effects.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB All Star Game in 3-D
I've played with a 3DTV at a Sony Store, while it was impressive, the cost of the TV with the cost of the glasses, it'll never catch on. They should sell the glasses found in the movie theaters for 5 or 10 bucks, and they would have a better chance of it catching on. As it is now, it's a fad that will be included in TV's for the next few years and probably phased out.Comment

Re: MLB All Star Game in 3-D
Though it was poking fun with sarcasm, this is one of the general misconceptions that I think people create about the direction of 3D, especially with today's technology. It's not so much about having things pop out at you, but it's about creating a foreground image (and giving it depth within that image itself) and a background image with it. Sure, things might go in front of it from time to time... but if we're going to watch the All Star Game, the pitcher will appear closer than the batter and the catcher. This isn't so much about the pitcher coming out of our screen, we can save that for The Discovery Channel to do a documentary on sharks or something.
As for the glasses, I think some companies will throw in glasses for free with a combo purchase of the TV and a 3D-ready Blu-ray player.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
