I don't want to see it fail, however I do want to see it as a luxury and not so much a requisite or a standard.

It felt great being ahead of the game sophomore year as the only person in the dorms with an HDTV, and I'm still pretty much the only person in the dorms that utilizes it for Blu-ray and 5.1 surround sound with it as well. It would be great if I could jump on 3D TV, but as EG said the glasses are very pricey.

Sure, it'll be a luxury feature like 1080p or surround sound was, but manufacturers are also piggybacking 3D onto new HDTV's just as a feature bullet point. It will have an easier time with adoption than even HDTV did, as HDTV's are established and far cheaper now, and 3D will be along for the ride.

The content still needs to get going, but it'll probably only ever be primarily used for movies, games, or the occasional sporting event.

Yeah, to get into true 3D, you're looking at a 3-4K investment. Gotta buy the TV and Blu-ray player (since current players can't support 3D, or if they could, no way companies are going to give it away free with firmware anyway), then you need probably 4 pairs of glasses. And, the new Blu-ray's that are 3D.

Just too infant now, as there aren't even any 3D Blu-ray's out there, not even Avatar which was just announced for Blu-ray is in 3D.

BTW if you were one of the 5 people to get a 3DTV the other day (there was a sale of em somewhere in the US this past week) you'll be happy to know that 10 hours of Masters coverage will be in 3D.

Besides, I've heard that 3D has led to some people getting seriously ill and other such side effects.
It's like I've said before... until they can create TVs that simply project in 3D, I have ZERO interest in owning one in the home. Putting on and taking off glasses everytime I enter and leave the room? Having to have enough glasses for everyone that may come over? If I want to flip between channels, and some aren't 3D then I'll have to remove and put the glasses on and off again? It's really just a HUGE hassel and inconvenience. Seeing it in a movie theater is one thing, but having to do all this at home? Yah... no thanks.
