Anybody gaming with an "LED" TV?
Just wondering.. I am looking at a 40" Sony 1080p 120hz LCD TV and I'm wondering if I should save a bit more and go for the LED backlit version. It's quite a bit more 810 --> 1260. I'm not interested in 3D but I'm so ready to move to Blu-Ray and 1080p. I hear it's awesome but I haven't seen it in person yet..

Re: Anybody gaming with an "LED" TV?
I just got a 47" LED. Besides the color black, I can't tell too much of a difference in my LCD and the LED. Mine is 240hz, but I turn off the anti-judder system with gaming. I don't see any issues, and the picture is stunning. Mine is 2ms refresh as well, so there's no blurring or ghosting at all. -

Since it's still a LCD you shouldn't have any problems gaming on it from day 1.Just wondering.. I'd definitely look at a 1080p 120Hz LCD first to see if that fits the bill, before paying the premium $400+ difference for a LED.
Good luck.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 03-19-2010, 07:24 PM.Comment

I game on an LED Backlit TV & & love-it. LED Backlit will also give you a better picture for movie watching than your normal CCFL LCD. IMO it's worth the extra if you can afford it.
Here's the TV I have but in 46" version

Re: Anybody gaming with an "LED" TV?
Thanks fellas.. I think I might make a run this weekend to Best Buy.. Hopefully they'll have the new Sony LEDs out. It would have to blow me away to spend the extra $450. I know I'll be happy either way though..PSN: jaydazzle

Re: Anybody gaming with an "LED" TV?
LED TV's are great for gaming. So far out of all brands, only the Samsung's make a big difference. I don't know what they are doing different even though they are edge lit. But the lighting and colors are better. And it almost makes everything look like it's filming live through a glass window and your the director.
LG, Sony, Toshiba and so on, don't give that appearance or look close, even the new 2010 models.
If you just want a 40" or 46" The Samsung models at 120Hz look better than all other brands at their highest of 240Hz and has a higher contrast ratio.Comment

Don't believe the hype my friend. SAMSUNG's BEST LED was made in 2008. The SAMSUNG A950 til this day is their best. The 8500 is close & that's because they are both Backlit LED.LED TV's are great for gaming. So far out of all brands, only the Samsung's make a big difference. No Edgelit LED TV can avoid this problem *look @ bottom & top*
This flashlight issue is common in Edgelit LED, Backlit LED have no such problem. BTW to the original poster this the TV your thinking about buying but in 55" version "SONY EX"Comment

That's a pretty broad generalization. That would be like me saying all plasmas look better than every LCD.LED TV's are great for gaming. By the way, contrast ratios are worthless...every brand calculates it differently. Its marketing hype.Comment

Re: Anybody gaming with an "LED" TV?
Yeah, I wouldn't touch an edge lit LED, my buddy got one and then I helped him take it back a few days later. Seemed like it produced a lot of halos and had a weird green twinge to everything. He took the Sammy back and got a LG which has a stunning picture. I only have a Vizio back lit LED, but it looks stunning as well...to me anyway.Comment

Re: Anybody gaming with an "LED" TV?
LOL, yeah, contrast ratio's are a joke, my set is 2,000,000:1, I don't believe it means anything except when comparing different models from the same company ala Samsung, Sony, etc.Comment

EG, FYI If you own the VIZIO LED than it's like owning the LG LH90. VIZIO purchased the panels from LG for their LED TV'sYeah, I wouldn't touch an edge lit LED, my buddy got one and then I helped him take it back a few days later. Re: Anybody gaming with an "LED" TV?
Well a lot of people don't even know how contrast ratios are measured, so that was a dumb mentioning from me. But the overall visuals what you see with your actual eyes make more since. So far the new Samsung C7000 3D LED looks great. I was in Best Buy watching Monsters vs Aliens on it and then switched to CBS and watched the Tournament on it, and it looked amazing. With amazing depth on the screen and incredible lighting and colors.
Like the other guy said though! The new Sony EX700 is an amazing television as well. Black Levels are perfect and colors are amazing.Comment
