Best Blu Ray Players for picture and sound?

Is the PS3 still the best Blu Ray player for picture and sound? Is it even noticeable?

My wife's b'day is coming up and I'd like to buy a 32" LCD for her along with a BR player.

Having a PS3 already, I might be tempted to move it to the bedroom if I can find a BR player that's better in PQ and AQ.
But my budget is limited. I'd be looking for a $100-$150 BR player.

Thanks for any advice OS'ers could give.

From what I've gathered and seen, the PS3 player is the best.

The PS3 is the best in the sense that it can keep adapting its software without having to renew the inside parts, this includes the new 3D technology. This has been the case since it first came out in 2006. Also the internal decoding is a godsend, otherwise I wouldn't be getting lossless with my setup. You can also sign up for Netflix streaming on your PS3.

Include the options for super-white, full range color spectrum, dynamic range control, and Bluetooth remote capability... you can't go wrong.

(P.S. I'm saying all of this while being fully unaware of what other Blu-ray players are capable of, so I only hope I'm separating it from the rest by listing these features.)

If price is no object....the Oppo 83. Best bluray player I've ever owned.

In what way is it better than the PS3? Just wondering since I'm not sure how one BR player is better than another as long as they can be updated.

Oppo updates its player just as frequently as Sony. The DVD playback is much better than the ps3. I have both and DVD's on the Oppo are damn near Bluray quality. The 83 loads Blurays faster. Also
rumor has it that Oppo is adding Netflix and Blockbuster streaming this year.

Now if you want a game machine that is a good Bluray player, the PS3 is a nobrainer.

If you're trying to save money, just stick with the PS3 (it's a solid player with all the extras).

If you still need a 2nd blu ray player, then it just depends on your needs. Do you need Netflix streaming?

You have a ton of options in the $100-150 range on Amazon. (free shipping + no taxes + great return policy)

The Sony BDP-S360 has been great. Fast loading times, plays everything.

Just make sure it is at least Profile 1.1, preferably 2.0

I'm guessing the Oppo does a better job at DVD upconversion and probably delivers more accurate colors on blu rays.

Also going to be less noisy, lower power consumption and is sleeker.

Can a better bluray player deliver more accurate color? Isn't it the same laser that any player would use. I could see the upconversion being better but I would think better color would depend on your TV rather than what the player reads from the BR disc.

In theory, it shouldn't make a difference. However, we know that corners can be cut and inferior parts can be used. With everything else being equal (tv, cables, environment) I would think they the quality of the blu ray player could have some impact on PQ.

I've had good luck with the Panny's. I owned the BD30 and now have the BD35, some of the best Blu-ray players at the time. I don't follow the BD hardware like I used to, but you can get a Panny for around $179 at some places.

Re: Best Blu Ray Players for picture and sound?

                          Thanks for the suggestions guys.
This new BR player won't be to replace the PS3 but I want to buy a 2nd one.
But because I'm a bad husband, if I get my wife the LCD for the bedroom and put a BR player in there, I want the better of the two for the living room where I watch my movies.

So I was wondering if there are any BR players in the $100-150 range that would have better picture and audio quality than the PS3. If so, I'll swap them so I get the better of the two.

P.S. I should add that Netflix isn't an option (in Canada) and I don't care about the online BR features, etc.
About the only thing I'd like to have outside of playing BluRay films is being able to play Divx videos from a USB key. But even that's not totally necessary.
