    Verizon Fios TV vs Directv

I am hoping to get some impressions from those that have made the switch.
The reason I am asking,is I just received my D* bill and about bust a nerve....$75 WITHOUT any movie or sports channels.

I had a deal with them where my base package was 10 cheaper (ended this month) and free hd access for 1 year (still have 6 mos left)...but when that is said and done,my bill will be $90 a month all without movie or sports packages....IMO,that is just beyond ridiculous for television programming.

I had also just received a letter about the fios bundle for $99 which includes internet, phone and tv. I already have fios internet, and was thinking bundling those together, but I'm not sure how fios tv compares with d* as far as pic quality goes.

I don't care about a dvr or anything like that (although I would get free access for 6 mos) but $90 seems to high just for tv with no "extras".

Hopefully someone can enlighten me on their experience with fios tv,and if they enjoy the experience, especially with the hd channels.

I heard you can get DTV w/ Verizon now. Haven't researched it yet, but I hear you can. Anyone?

$90 is about the norm for cable nowadays. So it really isn't high at all.

It's true, and advertised on Verizon's site as a bundle.

Those prices are insane though. It's no wonder I've read alot of people "cutting the cord".
Considering the channels I receive (over half of them are garbage) 90 is way to high, but the issue I have is to get the select channels that my wife and I would like, you have to "up" your package, thus resulting in more garbage channels for a higher price.

yea,I just checked that out. The one bundle has the same exact D* package that I have now (choice extra) for 84,but the internet is of lower speed than what I've got.

Yeah I just got the 1 year contract with Verizon HD package with the faster internet for 94 a month....I could have added home phone for $5 but only use my cell.

But 94 for fast internet, HD Cable with DVR isn't bad....

I don't like satellites so the Directv bundles are poop.

With Fios, they also tax their TV, internet, and phone, so it may end up being a bit more than they advertise..

if you get verizon fios I believe you have to pay an extra $10 a month on your electric bill because of the node they use.

You should be able to get a discount on DTV if you have Verizon if they have a package deal. I have everything separate with AT&T and I get a $5 discount each month from DTV.

For FIOS, you need to read the fine print and see what you will pay after the promo period. DTV will be similar or less.

For quality, they are the same. DTV will have more HD, depending on the area. DTV should be rolling out more HD channels in May, they are still testing the satellite in orbit. Also with DTV you can use MVR (Multi-room viewing) from DVR to DVR if you need 2 DVRs, don't think FIOS let you do that.

If you want cheap, go with DISH, but you will pay for quality.
