Favorite Supporting Actors/Actresses?

Who are your guys' favorite actors and actresses who more often than not are not playing the leading roles in films? Just watched Rounders again for the first time in a couple of years the other day. John Malkovich is so friggin good in this movie. It made me think of other great supporting actors.

I'm gonna have to throw Morgan Freeman into the mix. I don't think I've ever seen a movie where he's the individual star. Co-star? Yes. But he fits greatly into the supporting actor role.

Here would be the rest of my list:

- Alec Baldwin
- Sean Bean
- Natalie Portman (though she has many lead roles)
- Don Cheadle
- Paul Rudd
- Rachel McAdams
- Christopher Walken
- Russell Crowe

And I want to include Jason Bateman as well, but it's not as much that I think he's a good supporting actor as it just is I like him as a supporting actor. I won't see a movie because he's in it, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it more as a result. The Kingdom, Juno, Hancock, minimal roles in State of Play, Dodgeball, Up In the Air... I like his resume outside of Arrested Development.

Good list, I'd lean toward Ed Norton being ineligible because he's been the lead actor in a few movies (American X, Hulk, Pride And Glory, Leaves Of Glory)

Oh that's not what I meant, what I meant was that he has a lead role in that show, and it doesn't stop there when it comes to co-starring in movies. I guess that came off more as "he is good next to his poor show," which isn't the case.

John Cazale - Not many roles due to death but was great in everyone. Each of those movies was a classic too (Godfather I & II, The Deer Hunter, Dog Day Afternoon, The Conversation).

I agree with Jason Bateman, he's really solid.

Cate Blanchett - even though she's had many lead roles I like her best when she's supporting.

Chris Elliott - This dude is so funny but you only want him in controlled doses or he loses the novelty.
Sean William Scott - Same as Elliott

Definitely Cazale, he died too young along with the great Al Lettieri (Sollozzo). Bateman is a must pick in this category.

IMO, one of my favorite. Probably the best "education" movie.
