You acknowledge that you should've expected what was in Thor but go on to complain anyway. None of this stuff was a secret, even if you don't read comics the trailers showed you what Thor was about. Hell, the character is called Thor, that should've clued you into what was going to happen. I don't care if you didn't like the movie since I understand how someone couldn't, but your complaints are all things that you would've known about just from watching a trailer.

Trying to say these super hero movies are at all realistic or "reality based" always makes me laugh. Its a movie and its based on a comic book character, that's enough to suspend any expectation of realism whether its Batman or the Fantastic Four.

That's what I said haha. I can still dislike a movie even if I see things in a trailer. Hell, accordingly it seems that I can dislike a movie just by looking at a trailer. I was dismissing it before and I ultimately disliked it after seeing it. I don't think that changes my opinion on the movie or the effect it has on the Marvel universe, which is ultimately why I saw it. I thought that the makers of the movie would perhaps ground the character only slightly more and entice me to appreciate the universe as a little more earthly than it seems to be made into.

And I wouldn't call them my complaints, they're just my opinions. That's all.

Then maybe "realistic" isn't the right term, but you can agree without a doubt that these movies have a certain humanistic set of bases outside of what you might have seen in the cartoons or read in the comics, or seen in the early Batman movies. Spider-Man 2 was not just about beating Dr. Octopus, it was very grounded from the start and was a whole lot about a boy named Peter Parker. Outside of the wacky superhuman strength and the devices used, natural, real world physics applied and every character treated every event as if they were in any other movie.

In short, I like these movies because of the movies they are, not because of the characters they portray or because of the comics they come from. If the movies were like the comics, I wouldn't like them. There's something else about them that makes me like them, and it has to do with that "realistic" appeal we've all spoken of once before.

I've made my statements here and I'm now just sounding like a broken record. I don't know how else to say what I'm trying to say and still get my point across effectively.

Well I guess I'll put it this way: I had to problems with the new Star Trek movie. Maybe one or two problems, but I love that movie and am anything but a Trekkie.

And as I said, I'm just more disappointed that Spider-Man and Iron Man share a connection with this guy's story in the end.

Wow Thor has done big things at the box office taking in $US242 million worldwide in it's first week.

On a slightly related note Mel Gibsons new movie 'The Beaver' did not do so well:

On the flip-side, US-born, Australian-raised Gibson, 55, suffered another career body blow.
Gibson's new dark comedy-drama, The Beaver, billed as his comeback movie after headline-grabbing legal troubles with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, opened in North America with a thud, earning just $US104,000 ($A97,137).
The Beaver, directed by Gibson's longtime friend Jodie Foster, opened in just 22 theatres compared to Thor's 3995, but the result was disappointing following positive reviews from film critics at high-profile publications including the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, New York Daily News, Time and Rolling Stone.

Gibson plays the chief executive of a toy company who suffers a mental breakdown, hits the bottle and communicates via a beaver puppet he wears on his hand.

Ehh... Was never a huge Thor fan but I know the lore. It was ok - standard fare for a Marvel film.

I could have waited for the DVD. Just seems like it was necessary to setup the Avenger film.

I'm more excited for XMen.

I did, I guessed right about what it was going to be. Most people in the theater seemed disappointed but as a comic nerd it made sense to me.
