Just got out of theater. Abrams knocked it out of the park IMO. Really enjoyed it.

My wife and I took our 4 kids to see this today...just got home. AMAZING MOVIE!!! Loved it...
The acting was solid, and some nice emotionally touching scenes mixed in. If you liked ET & Close Encounters, you'll really like this...STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: JJ Abrams - Super 8
SpoilerMan the alien was the most athletic aliens I've seen. They did a great job with it sneaking around snatching people just like that. Watched in IMAX and the sound was crazy good especially during the train crash scene. I also loved all the nostalgia all over this film. Like the first walkman to the school folders that they had.Comment

Re: JJ Abrams - Super 8
I saw this tonight. I loved it. It might be my favorite film of the summer so far, slightly nudging out X-Men, but we'll see. I thought the cast was great. The chemistry between all of the kids felt real, especially between Alice and Joe. Seeing Coach Taylor lay it down was also cool.
Spoiler
I think Abram's walked a very fine line of paying homage, but not imitating those previous childhood/alien adventure films like ET, Close Encounters, and The Goonies. This is definitely its own thing and on its own is an awesome film. The little foreshadowing that Abram's does and the build to reveals are all things LOST fans are familiar with, but that's what makes Abram's a good storyteller with his visuals and not just his characters. For me, this film knocks Cloverfield out of the park because while Cloverfield's monster was cool and threatening, the characters and relationships were lacking. Super 8 has a decent monster, but whatever the monster is lacking is definitely made up for by the kids. I felt like I was watching a piece of Abram's childhood with them working on the film and their conversations. I loved the coffee shop scene with all the different conversations going on as I felt it really added to the chemistry of the group and their dynamic. The girl who played Alice was great - I thought she was a scene stealer and her chemistry with Joe was terrific.
The train wreck scene was glorious. It was equal parts e pic and ridiculous, but I loved it.

I really liked it but the ending was overly dramatic/corny.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment
