Downgrading from Windows 7 to XP help

When I insert my xp disc and I reboot my computer to reformat my hard drive, the blue reformat screen tells me there are no hard drives detected. What's the deal?

Why would you want to dump Windows 7?

It's my uncle's computer, and he isn't technologically sound enough to understand 7.

It isn't seeing your HDD (I'm guessing SATA) because the XP installation disk doesn't have the proper drivers for it.

You can get around that problem by installing the proper drivers from a floppy or setup disk that came with your computer.

Can you elaborate further? I don't have any cd's that came with the laptop.
