Need Help Uninstalling Fake Security Program!!!

    Hi,

I somehow ended up with "My Security Engine" installing itself on my Dell PC laptop...

I googled the program, found out it was a fake, but the instructions to remove the program only lead to more security sales pitches...

How do I get this off my PC?

I looked in the uninstall programs list and can't find it...

When I put the cursor over it, a bar comes up that reads: Location:C:\documents and seetings\all users application data 57936c5

Where do I find it and how do I get rid of it?

The constant pop ups are driving me nutz!

    THANKS!!!

Had something like this happen to my friends computer. I got it off of his.

Try turning the computer off and turn it back on but load it up in safe mode and delete it.
If that don't work you're best bet will be to backup all the files you need and do a system restore from safe mode.

I don't know any other way, but that worked for me.

Re: Need Help Uninstalling Fake Security Program!!!

I googled "uninstall my security engine" and this page came up. Might be useful.

My Security Engine is a rogue anti-spyware program from the same family as Security Guard. This rogue is installed and promoted through the use of Trojans and fake online anti-malware scanners. When the program is installed by the Trojans, it will be configured to start automatically when you login into Windows. The installer will also create numerous files that will be detected as malware when My Security Engine scans your computer.

I just had this same problem last night

        Kids man...

I just restored to an earlier date and that fixed it but i put up AVG quick

That trash is a trojan program, it even makes a horse noise on you when you try to shut it down

It wont let you run certain programs, it wont let you install anything to use, it wont let you open task manager, and who knows what else

Re: Need Help Uninstalling Fake Security Program!!!

Malwarebytes has saved my butt on multiple computers on Vista and XP. The free version removed all the viruses from my computers. I just used the quickscan option which took about 20 minutes to find rogue adware. More of these fake security sites are showing up and all of them are asking for your credit card number. Dont give them anything. You can still scan your computer from safe mode as well.

I would suggest installing the free version of malwarebytes anti-malware. It'll typically clear stuff like that if you run a scan in safe-mode

Co-sign. That software is awesome. Just have to remember to go into safe mode b/c those trojans don't let you do much under normal circumstances.

MB works on that Antivirus trojan as well.

I have WEBROOT spyware is that a good one? Or should I get this free one. Mine is almost up and I was wondering if I should not renew it. It has been very reliable though.

I've used webroots before and saw no issues with it at all

Thanks I have been liking it a lot. I have with Trend and they work good together. But the worst virus I have ever had was from this site. It caught it, but some of it got in. So I was getting some weird pop up on yahoo searches. I did a system restore and it got rid of it. I just hope OS can get rid of this crap. I have not had a problem yet, but with all these pop out now on OS you just never know. Though I have FFox and have add block on, so I don't get anymore pop ups.
