Ronnie James Dio passed away this morning...

Awful news. I knew he was battling cancer but didn't know he was this close to the end. He was just touring recently with Heaven & Hell I believe.

    RIP to a music legend.

Man this is sad when I was a kid I met him. My brother was in a band so he always get back stage passes. He was a real cool dude too. I loved him in Rainbow. Sad day indeed.

Oh man, this is a sad day...........I was always a fan of James. I am glad that he was able to get one last album out w/ his former Sabbath mates and to appear on the Queensryche OM2 album.

Grew up listening to him. Very sad day indeed. At least I got to see him a few years ago when he opened for Maiden... RIP Ronnie

Dam, this is a shocker! I didn't even know he was sick. My gosh-----the memories of my youth, showing the horns, head-banging along to "Holy Diver" and "Rainbow in the Dark" among others........

Sad day indeed. RIP, Ronnie, and keep rockin up there in Heaven!

I thought he was beating cancer too. The voice of metal is gone.

Yeah I had heard he was doing better and his chemo treatments had dropped to twice a week.

                        Damn shame.

wow, this sucks. My favorite Metal singer of all time. Loved all his stuff from Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio.

This was done just over a month ago and he was talking about getting back together with the boys in May for a tour in June. Either he's a great liar, or he truly felt he had this thing beat. What happened must have been pretty sudden. If you get the chance, check out Eddie Trunk's blog post regarding Dio's death, some pretty emotional stuff:

How awful. I met in in 1989 in Hollywood when I was a struggling musician. He took my demo tape and we talked about "the business" for about 10 minutes. Out of all the people in all of the bands I met he was the nicest most genuine out of all of them. I remember how he looked me in the eye and actually listened to me with great interest the whole time. I was in awe of him and he was just like a regular guy.

He'll be missed. Glad I got to see him live back on The Last in Line tour with Vivian Campbell. RIP RJD
