    Anyone have a Slingbox?

I read that they're coming with an app for the Android, and has me somewhat interested.

I'd be getting the Slingbox Pro-HD, anyone have it? Is it worth it (even just for PC streaming, it'd be cool to have my cable outside or in other rooms via laptop)?

Also, anyone know if a new version of hardware's coming? I saw that the last update was 2008, I'd hate to buy now and find out in a month there's some awesome new version....

Considering that the Slingbox is not wireless, I would also consider the HAVA Titanium wi-fi.

    Advantages over Sling box:
    ***Wireless (or wired)
***Ability to record either on the fly or set-up a recording schedule
***Ability to attach a USB stick or External Hard drive to it (have a 1 TB HD attached to mine)
    About $50-60 cheaper

    Sling box advantages:
***Has a built in ASTC tuner to turn any monitor or laptop into a HDTV
***Advertises Picture Quality up to 1080i vs. the HAVA of DVD-Quality (480p)

Keep in mind, the picture quality on all these devices depend on the speed of your network.

Unless you're on a very fast internet connection, not sure how close to 1080i you're gonna get without it being all choppy and scrambled.

Yes it is worth it if you want to watch things where you don't have a TV or want to watch your local programming elsewhere.

HD- you will only get it when you are on your local network
Wifi- don't hook it up wireless to your router, why limit your bandwidth?
Picture- your upload speed will determine your picture quality when not at home

Things to understand- all this does is pass the video/sound from the receiver, dvd, etc to your computer. So if someone at your house is watching TV and you also connect to the slingbox, you are both going to see the same thing.

Yeah, I understand...I'll look into the other one too.

        Thanks for the info!

Wifi is actually very good on the HAVA. Also, having a wired connection isn't always feasible.

I have the Pro HD and had it for iPhone. Will be getting it when it comes out on the droid for sure. Works great over Wi-Fi and works okay over 3g. Hopefully we can watch over 3g with Droid.

I just picked it up and really nice over wifi at home (is it the same over wifi elsewhere, ie if I go to a random coffee shop?)

Got it in anticipation of the Droid app, but now I can use my laptop in the bedroom and watch tv in bed if I want (or get a cheap monitor to hook it up to)....Tempted to get a netbook in general, wonder if they can handle slingbox (over wifi)....

I'm happy with the quality, won't be getting the iPhone one (have a 1gen Ipod Touch, but don't want to spend the cash on something I probably won't use much right now). Hoping the Droid one will be decent (though I may have to get the iPod one sometime).

The quality when you're not at home will basically depend on what your upload speed is with your ISP.
