What happened the the "Horror" Movies??

Im a fan a scary movies. Plan and simple. I remember back in the day when I used to watch Halloween and Friday the 13th and poop my pants. Now, all of these movies are just stupid. Even the remakes of the classics are not good. Is it because everyone is custom to the bad one's, that we are used to the scenes that make you jump?

The 3 past "Horror" movies i seen were,

    Drag me to hell 1\5
    Nightmare on Elm Street 3\5
Sorority Row 2\5 (This one actually caught my eye because of the plot. Excellent plot, bad movie)
    NFL: Oakland Raiders

    NCAA FB:Miami Hurricanes.

There were good rebirths to horror movie types... The Ring with a little ghost child and Saw with a sense of self-inflicting torture. However, they have spawned movie types like them that are just terrible.

Great examples. But im talking about the flicks that will make you want to leave the theaters. Then be terrified to go to sleep! But some movies have new plots and story lines that we never seen before, then the movie sucks.

I feel like you should reread this segment a few times.

If you go back and watch any of the "classic" slasher horror movies now, you'll realize that they are all awful and not remotely scary.

So when you seen the original nightmare on elm street, you weren't afraid of going to sleep? Or when you seen IT, you walked on the OTHER side of the street with the sewer? lol. C'mon now.

Probably because it was the first time you've ever seen anything like that, but nowadays if you see the same movie after seeing everything else that's out there, really it's nothing in comparison.

You've probably just become desensitized. Were you just a kid when you watched those older horror movies?

I remember that there were two movies I lost sleep over: one of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers movies and From Dusk Til Dawn. Body Snatchers is somewhat valid because they get you in your sleep and alien pod people is more plausible than Freddy Krueger.

                But...

From Dusk Til Dawn is pretty much a straight up action movie with some comedic elements. I don't think any grown up who grew up with a tv would lose sleep over that.

Only "horror" film that ever affected me and still does is JAWS.

I hear that music if I'm in a pond... let alone the ocean.

I saw IT again a few months ago, and it sucks. Maybe it was scary to watch as kids, but it's awful now. It seems like the genre still puts out similar movies, but people just aren't as sensitive to them now.

While you didn't like Drag Me to Hell, it was textbook Raimi and a throwback to the campy Evil Dead stuff. I enjoyed that, but not necessarily as a horror film.

We grew the hell up, thats what happened.

Now I'm not saying these re-makes are better than the originals because, they aren't but, I just don't find hardly any scary movie actually scary anymore.

The last movie that did any type of justice to my heart rate was quarantine and there was a few parts that made me jump. It was a adrenaline pumping/edge of your seat movie IMO and the rest have just been eh. There has been good horror movies just not very scary at the age I am now.

Re: What happened the the "Horror" Movies??

"Scream" (The first one) had me on the edge of my seat.

But as was mentioned above, I've grown up, so images of the "boogey man" or killers who don't die (Jason, Michael, etc) don't phase me anymore.

Now, when I was a kid, and the first Halloween movie came out, it made me scared to death of trick-or-treating, lol....

I also feared the ocean (thanks to Jaws) and camping in the woods (Thanks to Friday the 13th).

                        I had issues.............................

Oh man, how did I forget that one. That was a really good movie that had my heart racing a bit at times as well. There is a second movie I believe but, I didn't check it out because, I wasn't sure it would be any good.

                              Have you seen it?
