    Re: ESPN 30 for 30: June 17, 1994

Brilliant once again, not a single 30 for 30 I havent liked yet.

I remember that day clearly, it was the opening day of the world cup, me and my cousins were in the basement(escaping the heat, it was hot as hell that day, no AC) watching the opening games, and then the NBA Finals.

It was surreal as they kept switching back and forth. Hell I dont even remember how the game(NBA Finals) ended, I just remember the people waving OJ on in the streets.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

I actually helped with that one a little. I'm the media archivist at Fox here in Chicago and sent them some old footage.

        Excellent film on many levels...

As a kid who grew up a huge OJ fan (my Dad and I had season tickets in B-lo the year he rushed for 2003), that day is forever etched in my mind as being surreal and disturbing...

A friend texted me during the film and commented that he was unaware of EVERYTHING else going on at that time because "OJ knocked everything else off the grid"...

There were dozens of notable moments and pieces of dialog throughout, but the thing that resonated with me was how many people INSISTED, and NEEDED OJ to be innocent...

I'm not sure that many are of the same opinion these many years later...

I was a little kid in the family room with my mom and grandfather playing the board game trouble when my grandmother came downstairs and told us about OJ being chased in the bronco.

I definitely had no idea who OJ was, but I remember everyone being captivated by what was going on.
I remember watching Knicks/Rockets Game 5, then having the split-screen scenario for awhile until they began showing the Bronco chase exclusively. I think I switched to ESPN for a few minutes to find out who won the basketball game (they may have ran a crawl at the bottom of the screen on NBC giving the result, but I can't remember), then watched the remainder of the chase until OJ surrendered. I don't think that happened until around midnight EST.

Yep, pretty much everything stopped that day. I don't really remember what I was doing becuase I was just at home watching it. This and 9/11 are the only two events in my lifetime where I've ever seen that happen.

I clearly remember the verdict though, which was announced during school hours (I would have been in 6th or 7th grade, I think). We basically stopped class and the teacher turned on the TV for us all to watch it.

Oh, yes. I remember the day of the verdict also. I was in 8th grade, in my computer class. I think we were playing Oregon Trail that day, lol. Tells you how long ago that event took place.

That event and 9/11 are the two that I will never forget from the early part of my life. Everything else just seemed to stop. It always amazed me how people who were alive when JFK was assassinated could remember all the details of that day. Having lived through similar events now, it's not surprising any longer. I can still remember that sick feeling I had after hearing about the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks. I was pissed about the Giants losing to Denver the night before on Monday Night Football, and once the news broke, sports seemed so petty by comparison.

How could they be? He pretty much admitted it in that audio tape. Talking about how he had to kill himself to make up for what had happened... and how he hoped people would forgive him.

Obviously he did it... but even if there was anyone that still thought he didn't do it, I think his audio tape was pretty damning evidence.

Personally, I don't really care if he did it, however I thought the outrage at the verdict was outrageous. The D.A. was the one who messed up. And regardless a decade or so later they gave him a ridiculous sentence on a robbery charge. So they still got him.

not sure how you got that from the tapes.

Maybe I misheard, but he said, "that one way or the other he couldnt come back from this"
meaning that if he went to trial and was innocent, he would be looked as a murderer, and if he was found guilty, he would be remembered as a murdered, and he was right.

BTW, I am not looking forward to the 30 for 30 on Bartman

                          Oh, I get it...

My point was simply that little to no rational / logical thought was displayed by the public from the time of the incident through to the verdict and for quite a while afterward...

If I had a nickle for every person that had to employ revisionist history to explain away their original position on this, I'd be posting this from my private island...

As much as I hated to admit it, I knew he was guilty from the get-go and the look on Robert Kardashian's face as the verdict was read confirmed my belief...

He knew OJ was guilty and, (because he was alleged to be invloved in disposing of evidence) was hired to be on the legal "dream team" even though he was an entertainment lawyer with no criminal defence experience...they just wanted to make sure that they could play the "attorney / client privledge" card and make it impossible for Kardashian to be called as a witness...

The footage of the crowds storming Brentwood and waving at the Bronoco from thruway overpasses reminded me how lost the "court of public opinion" was on this one...

I was 8 when this took place... back then I had no clue what all of this meant, or why I was watching a bronco drive down the highway.

The movie did a great job showing how encompassing the event was. It gripped America.

I don't have much of a memory of this, seeing as how I was not even 2 yet I think I had more important things like eating finger food and learning a new word every day and Sesasme Street
