Whoever is making decisions at Blockbuster must have a room temperature IQ!!!

I just got an email from Blockbuster which screams “WE HAVE MOVIES ON DEMAND!” so I go to their site thinking they have some sort of Netflix thing right? Well they do, you can get movies on demand, much like Netflix (although I see no console options but rather blu-ray and tv options)..but here’s the kick in the head, its $2.99 per viewing and once you get it you have 24 hours to watch.

Are you kidding me?!! I’m paying Netflix $10.99 a month for 1 blu-ray out (just subscribed in my trial period) and unlimited rentals and Blockbuster is charging $16.99 a month for 3 blu-ray out and then they want to charge me $2.99 per streamed movie? Sure I’m getting 2 more discs out per month so I understand the higher price of $16.99 vs. $10.99 but that’s where it’s even, when you also ask me to pay $2.99 per streamed title don’t you think it gets just a little out of wack as to which one is the better deal?!!!!

Considering I would stream, on average, 20 movies per month that works out to…oh about $76.79 a month for Blockbuster vs. $10.99 per month for Netflix. And they wonder why they’re going bankrupt??? HELLO??? MCFLY??? ANYONE IN THERE???????

I’ll tell you what, when I go into Blockbuster tomorrow I’m going to tell them just how freakin’ stupid this is and how I’m glad to stand by and watch them go bankrupt. Personally it insults me that they’d even put forth this deal like it’s some great deal or something. Oh and btw, I think i'm done with this place!!

It's just a question of when and not if for Blockbuster's fate. Redbox renting blu rays nationwide later this year will probably be the nails in the coffin.

Obviously thought up by the same guys who essentially cut our online rentals in half saying it's your COMBINATION of movies in your home and on the way..... That's why I bailed.

Actually 2 Blu Rays at a time is cheaper when going through Blockbuster. I had netflix and didn't care for the streaming aspect. But, yeah, I don't think there is any on demand through Blockbuster that is free..

IM glad to see blockbuster go. They have always been one of those companies. Just always making people feel like they ere getting over on you. They used to have the crazy late fees, etc then tried the "no late fees gimmick". I just never liked them but like a lot of other things I hate, they were the only option where I lived for the longest time unless you wanted to wait for HBO to get the movie or something. Once netflix came out, I got on that right away.

1st its 24 hours to watch once you start watching. All PPV is done this way.

2nd this is not advertised to you. This is for people who don't have an account and don't rent movies from them. Redbook you have to drive to a location and hope they have the movie. For $1-2 more you don't have to leave your home and they will have it when you want.

3rd Netflix streaming is not great. How many new release movies do they have?

4th this is for the people who rent 4-5 movies a month. They don't pay for Netflix or BB because they would run out of movies after a few months.

P_Rushing - with all due respect, you must not have spent that much time with Netflix streaming. It is GREAT especially when it is at no extra cost.

Don't do redbox, but have heard that you can have a movie mailed to a certain location. That may or may not be true.

And all PPV is done that way, so why would I do the streamed movie through BB having to pay a membership charge, when for roughly the same price, I could get PPV from the cable provider that I likely already have.

The one near my house is going out of business and is selling everything dirt cheap so I got some movies I love for $9.99 a piece. Really pumped about it. Might even go back and see what else they have.

Mine too, I waited until the last day and got a bunch of decent movies for 99 cents each. I don't see how they have lasted this long, their business model is antiquated

I have like 50 red box machines in a 5 mile radius of my house. They just show up over night I swear. I love having them though. $0.99 a movie is great. Plus with Blockbuster charging $10 for a 5 day rental for games I had to switch to gamefly for that and I haven't looked back since. Blockbuster is done. Hollywood Video went down first up here though. I still wish it was Blockbuster instead of them first though.

Going to the store and telling people who have no hand in the decisions that the head office makes won't make a difference.

The onDemand stuff does not require a membership fee. It's $2.99, which is cheaper than most PPV.

Netflix streaming is fine, but they don't have new releases. That makes it bad, most people don't want to watch old movies.

BB is trying to get casual viewers, they know they can't compete with Netflix for most of their members. They can get the people that only watch up to 5 movies a month though. They don't have a monthly fee, which will be the big sticking point to most people who use it.
