Just got back. She performed all my favorite songs on the album. Locked Inside, Faster, Cold War, and Tightrope.

Re: Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
Fell on Tightrope by accident yesterday and now I have the entire album and love it.
What a fresh sound. Love her stage presence as well. And girl can move. Her dance moves in Tightrope are jaw dropping. Her moonwalk in Many Moons is one of the best I've seen. Then she of course performs a reverse moonwalk which is great.
As for the actual lyrics: Amazing.
No other words describe this music. Get it."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Had to defend my girl against FB users watching the BET awards last night. I was happy to see that she was gonna be a part of the show, but on the other hand...well, some of y'all know about the average BET viewer.PS: You guys are great.

Another tidbit...I really like how there's no pause in between songs. The album is like one big song and it flows together rather nicely.Originally posted by J. Re: Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
What the hell is she wearing?
Why is her hair like that?
What's up with them crazy *** dances, she looks ********.
Standard bullmess.
Some were talking about how Alicia Keys needed to save the Prince tribute. I was just like, y'all trippin'. Hell, I felt bad for the girl that had to follow Monae.Last edited by trobinson97; 06-28-2010, 02:43 PM.PS: You guys are great.

Her "Tightrope" performance on Letterman is one of my favorites.

Re: Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
Man, I honestly didn't realize she was a new artist. I had to do some research because for some reason, I kept confusing her with:
Jerzee Monet

or
Jonell

Re: Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
I have to see her in concert - looks like she'd put on one hell of a performance.
And I don't know if anybody has thought this or said it, but I have to give credit to Diddy for allowing Janelle to be as expansive as she wanted to be on her debut album. Not a lot of producers/labels would do that for a debut.Last edited by Fresh Tendrils; 06-28-2010, 04:56 PM.

Monae became popular years ago because of her style. Diddy would have killed the artist if he changed her.
And there's no way an artist like this would ever become huge in the mainstream. She dresses, dances, looks too different. Rather capitalize on that than change her for nothing.
Anyway, I agree with you."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
