I really liked her album. She's a poor woman's Lauryn Hill but there is definitely nothing wrong with that.

Lauryn Hill? Hey, that's cool. I personally wouldn't have compared her to Lauryn Hill. I think the genres and styles are way too different. But, I guess I can also get where you're coming from if you're talking about other things.
I'm not sure there's been an artist like Monae. I agree with a comparison made by Brentin Mock. He compared the album to Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation and said: "She is finally doing what a number of artists have not been able to do in years, and that's move pop music forward.""It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

x2. Those two songs immediately bring Lauryn Hill to mind. Getting compared to Lauryn Hill is not a bad thing at all. I wouldn't call her a "poor man's" Lauryn, she's making her own name. She's(Monae) definitely been influenced by her though.PS: You guys are great.

Also, I really like the remix to Tightrope with B.o.B and Lupe.Never surrender, it's all about the faith u got
Don't ever stop, just push it 'til u hit the top
And if you fall, at least u know u gave it your all

Re: Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
You have converted me. For some reason I just wasn't feeling her the first time I heard her music. Now, I'm really loving it. She is a true artist. There are not a lot of those out there. She doesn't need autotune, she can perform, you can just tell she is super talented in many areas. I am a huge fan.PSN: Koolie_G

Re: Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
Didn't they team up on Idlewild? I'm gonna check, cause I think they may actually have a song together.
UPDATE: I've found conflicting info. She says she was featured on a couple songs on Idlewild. I see where maybe she was on the same track, "Movin Cool", with Andre. Maybe not. She was apparently on "Call the Law" as well. They are aware of each other since Andre 3000 saw her in Atlanta where she went to school and that's how she hooked up with them for Idlewild, which apparently was her first big break.Last edited by Koolie G; 07-23-2010, 04:09 PM.PSN: Koolie_G

For those interested, she was recently on the cover of JET Magazine and they did a nice story on her as well.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
I love her so much. Cee Lo's might top it though as an overall album.
